R56 About that key...
About that key...
I've seen several threads where reference was made to the service department accessing driving styles from the key. Specifically, there's a story going around that the SA can determine how fast you've gone, and can invalidate the warranty if you're driving too fast. Here's the word on the key's capabilities to pass along this information:
"At the store level, according to our service people, .....nothing in the key chip will show that info...the key only shows service related info...the system in the back will pick up any faults the system throws out, which in some cases involve the speed/rpm at time the fault was recorded......Now, at the manufactures level, if the ECU or other related electronics were sent in they could probably access what time you started the vehicle this morning."

In the UK, even if it did collect that info it would be illegal to use without signed permission of acceptance of the terms and conditions of use.
It's not a feature of the key though.
How can you drive the car too fast if its not modified?
