Weird question: "fuzzy" tape?

Does anyone know where one can get heavy-duty "fuzzy" cloth tape similar to what MINI uses around the various wiring looms under the dash? I've asked at a few hardware and electronics stores and received nothing but blank looks.

I have a set of wires that I'm having a real challenge hiding, and I figure that wrapping them in a totally matte, cloth tape would be better than nothing. I figure the "fuzzy" tape can be secured with the hook part of a small velcro dot as well...

Thanks!

The tape can be gotten from MINI parts. It's the same stuff put between various panels and engagement points to stop squeaks and rattles.

IMO each car should come with a couple rolls standard.

Good idea - I have to pick up a part later this week anyway... Hope it's not TOO overpriced - it IS a MINI part after all.

Other means of hiding:
- "friction" cloth electrical tape (but if it's too exposed ot can get a little sticky)
- wiring loom (Radio Shack)
- Wrap with Scotch 33+ Electrical Tape, the best easily-available tape IMHO, but it's shinier black than you may want
- Hide in another wiring loom
- Use a longer run of wire and hide in side panels.

A lot depends on where you are running wire...

I forgot about that, also craft stores (Michaels, Joann fabric) sell the thinner adhesive backed felt. May not be the industrial strength adhesive you want though.

I too am in search of the "fuzzy" tape. I tried both a MINI dealer and a BMW dealer and they said they do not sell the tape. The MINI parts guy knew what I was talking about but said they only have it for internal use in the shop. Does anyone have a part number?

in my local Ace Hardware, they sell black 2" wide sticky velcro, industrial strength adhesive, by the foot....you could use just the felt half of that.....it would be too thick to wrap this around wires, but if there is a flat surface behind then you could just cover it up with this

Check your local bicycle shop - we used to sell lots of black cloth tape with good adhesive on it about 20 years ago - though I think everyone uses much higher tech, cushier stuff now. But I found some online...

How did you make out with the Mini Dealership? Did they offer the fuzzy tape for sale or did you locate it somewhere else?

I'm currently searching for it to use with some of the LED projects.

Try this: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=61&fg=15&hl=5

I had a roll of this from BMW. Its not exactly fuzzy. This is a black material tape for going around the wiring looms. I have used a fair bit of it.

I have also used the 'carpet' side of Velcro tape in similar situations. It works well to prevent rattles, and it does well as a 'bumper' to prevent rattling in doors and compartments, and it works well as a foot or slider. While more expensive that simple fuzzy tape (I didnt pay anything for mine, a tech gave me a roll with a fair amount remaining), it's more durable and rugged.

Thanks Guys....I definately looking for the Fuzzy type since I need it to dampen vibrations from the wires I added in my doors for my LED Puddle Light Mod and Interor Handle LED Mod

I think I might go with the Velcro option since that is readily available.

Here is a pic of the mods in action:
