Rear Bumper Deflection

I actually saw my Mini today! It looks great... it's just missing some parts on the wheels because it hasn't been Pre-Delivery Inspected (PDI) yet.

Anyway, I was checking around the car and my MA was showing me how the suspension was tightened (the reason for the higher looking wheel arches) for the truck ride over here. To show how tight the suspension was, he pushed down on the rear bumper of the car. When he pushed down, the rear bumper almost looked like it was going to break off - not because he pushed down hard, but because the connection between the rear bumper and the body didn't seem "strong" enough. Kinda freaked me out !

Is the bumper supposed to deflect down that much? Is this something the PDI will get fixed? Anyone else experience this?

Your MA is a tool; nobody should be pushing down on bumpers to actuate the suspension like you could on your grandpa's Ford Model T. Take it up with the sales manager if you see an actual damage, however the bumper cover itself and the paint are typically very flexible.

Yep, sounds like a real automotive Einstein. If that was your car ask your Sales Manager to please keep this MA away from your car untill ge gets further training.

Ryephile, glad to know the rear bumper is as flexible as it looked. I didn't hear anything break/snap/pop so I guess that's a good thing. Time to prepare a fat checklist for pickup... gotta make sure everything is A-oK.

There's a checklist on NAM already--very good one that I used myself:
