Redwood Red Lounge Leather conflict.

I really don't know how to state this in the title but let me explain.

I ordered lounge leather package with redwood interior.

I didn't get the sport package so I won't have the anthracite roof liner.

Therefore, I wanted to just leave the trim standard (checker aluminum).

However, I was informed today by my dealer that I must match the redwood red interior with Piano Black. Meaning I will have to pay the $120 to get that option.

What I don't get is, why can't I leave the trim standard (checker)? If this is the case, shouldn't the leather package come with a trim of their own?

The sport package doesn't come with anthracite roof liner. I think it's an additional 200 or something for the headliner. Also the Piano black dash is not $120, it's $200. If you select the Lounge Redwood Red leather on the configurator, it states that you would need a custom interior surface.

As Azn point out the Sport package does not come with teh anthracite roof and the Piano black is required for Redwood lounge seat an additional $200 option. I am not sure if you can talk you MA into getting the Redwood seat with the trim but you can always try
I have also selected the Redwood lounge seat, it matches very well with the Piano trim in person (saw it at the Auto Show).

I'm not sure if piano black is required dash for redwood, but you must select a premium dash with full leather. All premium dashes cost either $200 or $300

I am not sure, but there might be some confusion due to how the configurator is worded/works

Tuscan is the same way. When you pick it, is states it will add the Piano Black trim, but you can still select another trim. I think it just requires you to pick one, and defaults to the piano black. That is jus a guess. The configurator could be in error it allowing you to select another trim.

I am more curious why they do not allow you to get the checkered cloth seats when you pick the "Nightfire Red" exterior color. Seems to be a rather arbitrary exclusion that makes no sense.

The configurator on MINI.CA allows you to pick the Redwood seperately from the trims. On default, it will be the checkered trim. Options would include Piano Black or Brushed Aluminium.

To me, I just thought it was pretty weird how my dealer told me that I HAVE to pick Piano Black.

Oh well, I will call MINI Canada tmr to clarify this.

If you haven't sen the piano black option, it's very beautiful. I would order it with any interior.

I think this also applies to the black lounge leater. Certainly when I ordered mine it told me I had to have piano black. The dealer said I could change this if I wanted.

My Wife really did not like the piano black with the Tuscan interior. I didn't really care.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but since all you guys are like me and ordering the leather are any of you concerned about the durablity over the long run? My car will be a daily driver.

No direct experience with the MINI yet, but my current car (Audi) has leather seats which have stood up very well to almost 9 years as a daily driver, plus occasional dog hauler. I've ordered the Redwood Red Lounge Leather...still debating whether to let the dogs share.

I've always thought of it this way for considering cloth vs. leather (or leatherette):

What lasts longer and stays better looking longer -- cloth or leather shoes?

BTW -- the US configurator defaults you to the recommended interior surface.

Adding the Lounge Carbon Black adds Piano Black for an extra $200.

But, you can change that to Fluid Silver, English Oak, or Brushed Alloy. You just can't select the Gotham Grey or Checkered

Similarly, some color lines are prohibited with certain body colors.

You gan't get Laser Blue with a Mellow Yellow or Rooster Red color line, for example, but all color lines are available with Astro Black

I think there MINI's trying to prohibit the "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING" combinations.

Although they'll allow the MY and RR with the Tuscan leather and Brushed Alloy, which look pretty goofy to me.

From what I can see, they consider some color line/body color combinations and upholstery/interior surface combinations to be prohibited, but that's all.

I think MINI is preparing for mis-matches with the colorline by offering it as an aftermarket option, only time will tell. The quality of the leather in the R53 until the addition of the premium leather in 06 didn't hold up very well. Even in a V60 R Volvo the leather is problematic when it comes to premature wear. In my experience Audi has the highest quality. My 2000 Audi 6 still looks pristine.
