I just did the same thing for an AutoX that is coming up. The weird thing is, it seems like there is less air turbulence in the cabin with the seats out.

Having the rear seats out probably messes with your MPG with the top down. Since the air flow is probably getting stuck in the boot, atleast without a windscreen in place.

MPG already messed up!! I'm going on a long highway drive trip so the roof will be up as it's gonna be noisy for such a long drive at high speed.

I will take some photos and get them posted!

Do you have a quick "How to do it" to offer?

I don't see how having he seat out will affect gas mileage. I don't think of my wind deflector as a fuel economy device.

I don't have any problem with long trips with the top down. Of course, I stick to back roads. I guess a long trip on I-95 would be brutal with all the noise from other vehicles.

Anyway, I just heard indirectly that when I drive back to my son's college graduation he's thinking I'll be able to carry stuff back to Santa Fe. I know he knows I'm driving the MINI so I can't imagine how he got that idea. Still, having the seat out would help.

Is it easy and quick? Is it reversible?

I've tried to remove the rear seats and i failed. How did you get the upright part of the seats to come out? I kept getting stuck in the middle. didn't want to force it, didn't have a manual...

hey BlueBonnet: I've put more stuff in my mini with the top down than in any other car i've ever used. This includes:
4 cube high filing cabinet
entire kitchen table
two mountain bikes
36" tv
8' tall door
just drive slowly with the larger stuff!

There are posts here to tell you how to remove. Going by the pic above it is the same as the hard-top.

I have removed mine as well and it was not that hard. (15min and that was going slow not to mess something up.) The most difficult thing was to "line up" the seat in order to get the side pin out out of the wall.

I searched around and found this thread which points to instructions. I don't believe they are convertible specific and, of course, the convertible seats are of a different size . . . I wonder if they modified how they are attached to the vehicle as well. I'm waiting for the $100 manual to come out in May as I think a manual ought to be written after all the changes in your model have been made. I don't know if they will cover this detail.

Ericscottf, if the thread helps you get past your stuck point let me know as I too have difficulty applying the necessary force for fear of breaking things.

I have removed my cabrio rear seat a few times. At one point I had ALL of my seats out -- should have taken a picture. With the top down it was great having the open space to install wiring for my cabrio rear lighting.

The instructions for removing the rear seats are the same for hardtop and convertible. I suggest putting the roof and windows down first for a more convenient space to work in. Pull the seat bottom out first; it just lifts off from attachment clips. Fold the seat backs down and remove the bolt between the seats that locks the hinge. You can then release a seatback from the center hinge. Now fold the seatback to halfway between its down and up positions, about 45 degrees. You have to line up a tab with a slot to pull it off the hinge on the side, and you may have to hunt a bit for the exact angle. While applying a light pull away from the side, rotate the seatback angle back and forth until you find where it releases.

Thanks. I've appended your instructions to those I've printed to use. I'll be taking out my rear seat after lunch.

Then after this, i'll be looking for threads which describe putting in a flat floor and underfloor storage.

I may also be looking for tactics to handle the rear seat belts as the straps already blow in the wind.

I'll post after completing/failing to complete the job.
