Drivetrain Incredible Whine!
Incredible Whine!
OK. I have come across a thread regarding FMICs and saw 2 awesome videos...

The whine from that car is beyond incredible. I want to find out how to mimic that sound on my car. Does anybody have some ideas of how to go about achieving that lovely whine?

I had considered that as an option many a time, but I'm just not comfortable with the way the throttle body is repositioned. I saw a friend of mine install it on his and it did indeed sound great, just that throttle body was literally held in there with zip ties.

The AGS sounds nothing like it, but then nothing else really does. Any open CAI will give you a much more pronounced whine though - Alta, Madness, Mania or Pilo with the rear cowl mod.

Randy's on this thread, so he can tell you, but I saw this IC on the Mule and on a car from LA in LV at AMVIV. The problem was the boots that connected the CF "horns" to the FMIC. The engine moves and the IC is fixed to the chassis-so those boots had to take quite a bit of flex. The boots looked like rubber or silicone, and didnt have enough flex to prevent the clamps from loosening and causing pressure leaks. On the track, on the DS car, it was fatal and only lasted a couple of laps. There's a whole thread about this--just do a search.
We finally got all the bugs worked out - it is still on the DS car now - but it is NLA due to the lack of a carbon manufacturer, and it is prohibitively expensive as well ($2900).
There were two separate issues. The first was the one I mentioned above - the bonding material was wrong. The second was the clamps and silicone used to mate the runner to the intercooler. When the size and clamps were changed, it finally worked (the video of Second Creek was a test session).
Here is another video for sound comparison that I just uploaded - it hasn't been seen before - from the first NAMCC race in Vegas:

Hope that helps!

Problem is, you are one of maybe half a dozen, and the cost to do that limited number of intercoolers is insane, and I would have to find a manufacturer for the carbon fiber quality we would need.

AstroBlackS, I believe that I have THE ultimate whine. I would love to post the sound file, but I do not have time to put it in a video clip and put it in youtube. I have it on a wma sound file. Send me a PM with an email address and I can send it to you. I promise, you will have to change your trunks...
Mad Max would be proud....

. The sound was recorded INSIDE the car with the windows closed and it is loud and sweet. It is even better with the window open.

OK. So I have listened to bomboasy's sound files and WOW. The sound of the scream when on the throttle is something else. I've hosted the files, here are the links...

Now that I know where I can host this, I tried it myself. I hope it works for you. I did tried it myself and it seems to be working fine now with the link below.

PS. I deleted one of the files. It needed to be normalized for volume. In case you download it and the volume was very low. The new version is better.
