R50/53 How do you track the shipping of your Mini?

If you are talking about tracking your MINI after it has been produced, go to the link below. Go to "Track by Cargo"-"Auto" and put in your 7 digit VIN, get your Booking Number and then track by booking number. You will find out what ship it is on and its ETA at your home port. Good luck.Cargo Tracking
It might take the dealer a couple of days to get the production number. It did with me. Now that was after my nine months of being on the wait list. Then I went in for the placing of my order and two days later I had a production number. Did you get on a wait list or did you really place your order?
I placed my order (wrote up options, signed paperwork, put down deposit), and the guy said "we'll call you in six months". Unfortunately, I don't have the slip here. It's at home.
I've never heard of being put on a wait list.

Eh. I hope I'm right about this process. Sounds almost like any discrepancy is in the semantics.
Next week, I'm going to call Hrach at Mini of Peabody (MA) and ask him about a getting a production number.

Since they're quoting you six months...you're on a wait list because it only takes about 6 weeks once production begins for the car to arrive in the US. For me there was a five/six week time lag from the time my order was placed (after waiting 9 months on the wait list) to the time my car rolled off the assembly line.

Great. So I have no way of knowing what is going on for the next six months? I won't even know if I've moved up in the list due to cancellations or if my wait grows because my car gets "stolen" to appease a more important customer.
mcs22004, I'd call your dealer and ask where you are on the list and what type of allocation they get each month for the MCS. Talk to them and see how it goes at their dealership. If they won't tell you anything, you may want to concider changing dealerships.
I will be dealing with the San Antonio dealer and he said that he had about 12 people on his list at this time and his last months allocation for MCS was 18. So if for July he gets allocated at least 12, he'll get to order a MCS for each person on his list. If he gets allocated 10, then 2 people will have to wait until August to order.
I have a least where I have to turn in my car in January, so he is telling me to come by sometime the end of August and put down my deposit. He'll make sure I am on the list so no matter what their Sept allocation is, I'll order my MCS in Oct for a January delivery.
I hope this helps you out! Give the dealer a call and see what they say.

Thanks. I'll check into that.
Unfortunately, I am supposedly already dealing with the "reputable" dealer in the area. I think part of the problem is that there are only two dealerships in the area. I live in NH where there are no MINI dealers. There are none in Vermont or Maine, either. There are two dealerships fairly close to me--one in Peabody, MA (north of Boston) and one in Boston. I'm dealing with Mini of Peabody, which from what I've read is highly reputable. So I guess that most people in the area are going to these two dealerships. I recall that the salesman's order folder was about 1.5" thick when mine went in. I know there is a dealership in Connecticut, but I don't want to drive for three hours to take a chance, either.
Also, there seems to be conflicting information on this site about how dealer allocations work.
