shock upgrade/when to do
I just added a rear sway bar and end links, but I want to know when do shocks get changed? I'm at 55900 on my '03 S and tend to drive it hard. My MINI is stock and not lowered. Any brands that have worked for others in the MINI community?
sando4552,
you are probably due for some shocks, at this time, your car will for sure handle better.
there are a lot of quality shocks available for the mini, with or without springs.
you can do shocks only, shocks and springs, or coilovers, you need to find the right one for you, for your use.
I will be happy to help you

Look at Koni FSD... very highly rated. will improved handling as well as the drive. Unless anyone can make a better recommendation, thats what I will be installing soon.
From what I've read, those who have the FSD's love'm and they retain the stock ride height. If you plan to lower your car, they may not be the right choice. If you are going to AMVIV4, Randy Webb is having a Tech Talk about suspensions.....on Thursday I think. It will be in the middle of Glenn's, Nikki's and my H-sport spring installs.
Good Luck...
Good Luck...
I am looking at replacing my shocks in the next 3 weeks with Bilsteins PSS9, yeah they are a little more, ok alot more
but as for the pros and cons, I have not found anything that I would use otherwise..

Thanks for the tips I will use them to research the best price range and brands to consider. I would agree $1900 is not reasonable and it cuts into other mods on my list!
Both Howad and I have installed Koni FSDs.. I wil not speak for Howard, but I will for myself.
Koni FSD shocks are in the $650 range (plus installation). They will initially raise the car about an inch in both the front & rear, but should settle down to stock height within a few months.
This is the single best investment I have made for my MINI driving CA roads... at least as far as comfort is concerned.

KONI's have been installed and I have about 250 miles on them. Although it appears stiffer the ride did not change dramatically. It was a great investment.
