R50/53 Dealer Run-around?
I need a little perspective on service for my Mini. I got my Mini4 weeks ago, and there were a few minor things wrong with it that needed attention. My sales guy suggested that since I wanted immediate possession, that I bring it back in a few days for service. 2 weeks ago, I called my sales guy to set up the service appt, as he'd suggested, and he told me to bring it in on Friday. Friday morning I took it in, but was told that no service appointment had been made. They suggested that I go ahead and leave the car (they would give me a loaner), and they'd work on it asap. Now, 8 days later, they still have my car and the work isn't done. Here's the list of what needed to be done: CD changer isn't working properly. Evidently a part needed to be replaced, and that has been done. I bought the installed Navagation system, but the dealer didn't have the DVD/CD to run it. They were supposed to have ordered the CD/DVD. I still don't have a straight answer about whether they have it now or not. There was a small tear in the driver's door panel, and that was supposed to be repaired. This evidently still has not been done. They did tell me that they detailed the car though. They still can't give me an ETA on work completion. At this point, they've had my car almost as long as I had it before taking it in for service. I've talked to sales guy, service guy, sales mgr. Now no one will return my calls. I haven't been hateful, but I have been persistent. I'm really bummed. Should this sort of problem take this long to fix? There's no other Mini dealer within 250 miles of here. Wish I could take it to someone else. Sorry for the long post. I'd love some perspective.
Get your car back and have them call you when the parts come in. Nothing you describe is too serious, so why not drive the car until they get their act together?
Just make sure all your problems are documented in writing (especially the tear and the missing DVD).
You're making the payments...you might as well be driving it!

If the dealer is not too far, I would go down and talk to them in person and document all of the problems and a realistic time to get the car back. People tend to treat you differently in person as opposed to on the phone. Find out if there is a problem with them obtaining the parts. If this is the case, they are as stuck as you are. But at least you know where you stand. Look on the bright side you can use their car. Autocross? Someone used a rental last week at our autocross in Reno.
