Why did my temperature read out flash?

Last night while pulling in the garage I heard a single chime and then the readout for the outside temperature on my tach flashed several times. Any idea why?

Ambient must have been 37 degrees. The chime is to warn you of potential black ice.

Was it at 37 degrees? It is supposed to flash when it hits 37 to warn you of possible icy road conditions. Living in SoCal it is entirely possible you've never seen it before.
