Mini mechanic?

Just a quick question...

Once the warranty is up on your Mini, are you planning on continuing to have the car serviced at BMW/Mini dealers or do you have a reputable mechanic already lined up in the area to work on the Mini. My warranty is up on 1/21/07 and should anything break after then I am thinking about taking the car to a shop that specializes in BMW's and Mini's.

Anybody know of such a shop? My Mini has been to the dealer for everything for the first 4 years (while under warranty) but that will probably change after the 21st. Labor at Century BMW is $92 per hour, which I guess is about right with other BMW/Mini dealers, but I'm thinking an independent mechanic will cost less. I know our club discount saves us 10% on parts and labor, but I wonder if some things can be done at an independent shop for even less.

I love this car, but I don't have a bottomless bank account to keep it on the road.

I see that you are in the Simpsonville area but look at the above ad Grassroots Garage is a great place to go.

Something else to you might want to check in to is the MINI extended warranty if you're planning on keeping the car around for a while. On my '03 it was $1800 for an additional 50k/4yrs and it covers most of the car's mechanical and electrical systems.

I feel you SCminiguy, My warranty has been up for a while now, I have over 70k miles on it and it is mighty expensive and frustrating to mainain this car. the simplest of jobs in other cars could cost triple in a mini just because of the labor time put into it.

I know its a hike for some of you to get here, but I'll do what I can to make it worth your while. Thanks for all the kind words, I hope I can continue to meet your needs.
Cheers,
