R52 Wind Blocker ?
I have one that I bought from Morristown and I use it all the time. I can really notice when I forgot to put it back in after using the rear seat; so much more windy. I've used mine on long road trips and while it will not eliminate the wind, it really does minimize it to the point that driving with the top up and side window down is much more windy.
I would say yes to buying one (but the thing was expensive almost to choke point).

It makes an AMAZING difference in the amount of air flowing thru the passenger space. Around town with the wind deflector installed and raised the only real movement of air I can feel is at the very top of my head and a little around my elbows. This effect can be felt from either of the front seats.
At Highway speeds the sound of wind buffeting is greatly reduced with the wind deflector in place making conversation and music much easier on the ears. The temperature also seems to be more affected by the heater so more of what is coming out of the vents stays in the car.
The downside is that you loose the use of your backseat for passengers and the price.
I got around that by not having children
and financing the cost of the wind deflector with the rest of the car.
Morristown Mini does have the best price at between $300-$350 depending on wether they are on sale or not...

Would I do it again--- Yes but I think I'll wait until I found a real nice deal with the 'checkered flag' look... The "wind deflector" also comes with a real nice carrying case that can be folded up and use for other things. It looks like a laptop briefcase in a nice grey color with MINI logo...
Try to use the word 'wind deflector' not wind blocker.People on NAM go crazy about calling their precious hood and trunk instead of bonnet and boot...
worth it
I bought mine used on e-bay for $175. My husband refused to pay full price for it. However, he is the first to admit that it makes a huge difference. The noise is significantly cut down and you only feel the wind on the top of your head. I love it and highly recommend it. I have seen others on e-bay that were used. You just have to wait and keep looking.
That's like wearing black socks and shorts.

Bonnet and boot, and I couldn't figure out why they were talking about a girls hat and tall shoes! Bonnet and boot, hood and trunk, how about that.
Good excuses you all are giving me to buy a wind deflector. It seems to take care of most the reasons my significant other has for not wanting the top down. I would think the design of the wd also keeps stuff from flying out of the back seat.
It's understandable that everybody balks at spending over $300 ($425 MSRP!) for what has been described as "pantyhose stretched between coat hangers". The problem is that it works very well and there is no aftermarket equivalent, so they've got you on the price. They throw in a ridiculously elaborate carrying case (like you'd actually carry it around?) to make you feel like you're getting your money's worth.
My wife actually got it for me. It allows "us" to have the top down in sub 60 (she's a freeze baby) weather. Before getting it she'd nag that it was too cold to have the top down even with the seat heaters.
No equivelant...
For what it's worth, I had an Oris windblocker on my Miata that was the same type, that is, a black mesh material stretched over an aluminum tube frame. Oris also made the OEM windblockers for Mercedes as well. There were quite a few types of windblockers available, but only Oris used the translucent mesh material. New they ran about $220 and were only a single mesh panel behind the headrests with a simple tube & bracket mount. Compared to the complexity of the MINI wind deflector I can understand why ours list for almost $400 new. I also ordered mine from Morristown, good service and prompt delivery. Although pricey, it's worth it. I leave mine in the car year round since I only use the back seats for cargo, and if I have to drop something large in the back, I just release the two front latches and raise it up for access, then latch it back in place. Unless you're carrying passengers there's no need to ever remove it.
Com-on what's wrong with that?
I also wear socks with sandals
but I wouldn't be caught driving a red conv't ,that would look like I'm a gay hooker...
to each his own...That's what MINI is about....

2 Cabrios here both with a wind deflector (purchased new) and yes I say bonnet and boot ... because I have a MINI (well, three to be correct) ... if I wanted to use US names I would have bought a Chevy.
Sorry, but top down and windows up looks silly and the MINI has a sunroof option: use it !!

Short answer, yes it's worth it. Longer answer, I would have liked to have had the time to look for a better deal, but we took delivery on Oct 30, and I knew I would want to drive with the top down, so I got it from MINI of Nashville while we were there. It's not cheap, but it absolutely works great. In response to those criticising the top down, windows up mode of motoring, it allows me to drive with the top down in 40 degree weather without a jacket and even colder with a jacket and cap. I would rather drive that way than have the top up...geez.

Looking good for others to see is for those middle aged fat-*** who thinks young ladies really gives a sh#@ that they're driving a MINI conv't. I drive the MCSc for myself, silly is ,as silly does... If you want to be Forrest Gump or James Bond it's your style .. I drive with my top down( w/wind deflector) on cold nights with the windows up heater on, heated seat, driving gloves...
people see me with the top down(most likely they're thinking,'this guy is crazy') it's OK. go drive your SUV POS...
keep on motoring...
Got disagree here also. But then again I'm 43 and stand on the back of the shopping cart and ride down the isle as I go looking for my MINI in the Walmart parking lot, so obviously I'm too big on what others think
