I am getting ready to place an order and am wondering what would be the best initial purchase include? I am getting the PC bundle for sure, but not sure exactly what else should be included. I currently have 4 MF towels of varying quality (all good....maybe not the best though). My paint is in good condition, not many swirls. Have kept some level of Zaino on it for the last 3 years, but am out and would like to try some of these products. Other than the obligatory paint chips on the front, the rest of the car is in pretty good condition.

If I choose to get the car professionaly detailed, what questions do I want to make sure I ask? I may have it done first and leave the upkeep for me.

I think I would check out the package at Coopersport. Jason has put together a pretty complete Prima package and there are some great DP towels.

 

Just go to DP and ask Heather...she will get you what you need and for the right price!!!

Here's what I got for $150 bucks! This set up is for a non PC detail. When I get my PC from AutoTopia I am gonna see Heather and get the other stuff I need. Her and Nick are great and will ALWAYS help you and ensure you are satisfied. If you are local in Denver EVEN better!!

I would never put product on my rooftop, but the photo is pretty cool looking... especially with your GP number.

I CAREFULLY PLACED them there took the shot and removed them without leaving a mark! Besides with that set up; any minor problems would have cleaned right up....RIGHT HEATHER?? :-)

 

The Grit Guard only comes in one size--for 5 gallon buckets. Well they have some others--but I don't think they are readily available. If you aren't going to use the Grit Guard, at the very least, use a second bucket for the two bucket system.

I'm also experimenting with another 5 gallon bucket system called Dirt Guard that includes the 5 gallon bucket, a special foam filter that looks like a big rough bath sponge, and an inclined disc that friction fits to the inside bottom of the bucket--it works like the grit guard but has extra steps to ensure the grit stay at the bottom of the bucket and can't swirl back up.

I suppose "GritGuard" is a trademark name or a product name...

wat i meant was the grid that you clean your mitt with and to place
your mitt (for watever reason) so that you dont pickup the loose
dirt at the bottom half of the bucket. as everyone and their
pets know , i use a Griots wash bucket with a half grid near
the top of the bucket near or above the 5 gallon mark. does the
trick for me. I use the full 6 gallons and 3oz of CarWash each time.
i never take my mitt any further than flush with the grill to minimize
picking up dirt inside the bucket.

my black car shows very little swirls and barely any toweling haze
after 6months of washing so i think it's working pretty well.
well worth the $85 or watever i spent on that bucket with casters.

 

Let us know how you like it - I've been considering getting one or the other and wasn't sure which way to go. Seems like the Grit Guard is sold all over with all sorts of rebranded bucket set-ups, whereas the Dirt Guard is only available in from a couple of vendors.

 

Yeah the Dirt Guard is newer, so not as widely available. It fits in either a 5gallon or 3gallon bucket. The Grit Guard is far simpler--not that either is complicated to use.

I'll post a writeup comparison of them soon. I've only used the Dirt Guard on a couple cars so far, and I'm still forming my opinion.

can Monster Fluffies be used for drying or is it best to use a dedicated drying towel?

 

my understanding... yes, they can be used for drying, but are better saved for quick detailing and buffing off wax.

i use the Waffle Weave MF drying towels (from DP) and simply lay them on the car and let them soak up the water. I never move them across the paint.

You can, like any MF towel, but I don't. They are so soft, and I have so few of them, that I prefer to use them for polishing, for Slick and Hydro when dry.

 

Are those wash bucket Grit Guards available in local stores, or only online?

I have not seen one sold locally at the auto stores.

 

I saw them at Kragen and Auto Parts + here...but that was AFTER I bought mine online. So I don't know, you might be able to find them if you were willing to do a little cruising for one.
