It looks like a box that might take the signal from the air flow sensor and modify the signal before it reaches the engine management computer. The intent would most likely be to manually increase the richness of the mixture.

Have no idea if it would work or not, but that kind of adjustment should only be needed to a highly modified engine.

Just a guess.

And welcome to NAM!

if your going to spend that kinda money on something like that just get an ecu flash, it should do the same thing. I know the EvoTech Flash does.

The Apexi

is an excellent air fuel controller. And dispite the calls for a reflash, it's one of the only products that the end user can tune. It is an interceptor or piggy-back, modifying signals from sensors to get the ECU to do what it wants.

If you're new to tuning, this isn't for you, as it requires some skill and tools to tune properly. But the twin-charged guys used it for fuel control. IT won't change timing, just fuel. But the Mini Ss are real rich, so it gets power from leaning the mixture on that model. I don't remember the A/F curve for the cooper. If you want more info, get in touch with the Fireballed crew.

I agree with Matt. I don't know what the exchange rate is but you can find them on ebay for about $250USD total. Just make sure you get an APEXi SAFC II instead of a VAFC (those are for Honda guys). I am gonna throw one on my Cooper here in a few months. I know it give you a few HP by leveling out the A/F curve.

And if you want to get more sophisticated with the fuel control and other operations such as boost or an intercooler sprayer you purchase Perfect Power (available from DMH Motorsports).
