iPod quality with factory adapter

I had the iPod adapter installed with the car when I bought it. There is some strange background noise, especially when I listen to spoken word CD's or podcasts from NPR. It's there with music as well, just not as noticeable. Has anyone had this problem? I thought I'd try another iPod, but my iPod sounds fine everywhere except in the car. Ideas??

thanks, Gail

Gail,
I have the factory ipod adapter and have no experiences like you described. Mine works very well. There is something wrong with yours. First thought is the ground is not good. Do you have warranty? If so, I'd take it to a dealer, demonstrate the problem, and request they verify the connections are good. If not, then you will have to verify good connections yourself. Your idea to try another ipod is a good one. Do that. Also, check your ipod in other systems (friend's auto, home stero, etc). This will help you know whether it is something specific to your wiring and/or ipod input into your car's audio system.

You could be noticing the noise more with podcasts since there is more dead air - unlike a music track.

Does the noise go away if the iPod's backlight is shut off?

Thanks for the advice. I tried my iPod elsewhere and it works great. I turned off the backlight,, still the same noise. I'll check with the dealer as it is under warranty, but first I'll verify with someone else's iPod.
