Panel Under Steering Wheel Removal

I am trying to remove the two driver's side downtube screws but need to remove the panel below the steering wheel for acess to the top screw. I thought the panel was removed (dropped down) by dugging down on the pael below the steering wheel (and the panel would swing down). That is how I removed the panel on my 2003 MCS. I have dugged and pryed on the panel but it will not pop loose at the top pins. Is the panel installed/connected differently on the GP? Has anyone else had difficultly removing the panel? is so, any suggestions on how to get the panel loose.

I am trying to install my auto-up/garage door opener circuit card and aux audio input so I want to remove the switch panel and radio, thus I need the downtube screws removed so I can push the downtube to the side to access the switch panel and radio screws.

I resorted to using a prybar and finally got the pins to pop loose. The panel swings down, as I expected, but the pins were just vert tight.

I have a GP and got a euro shelf. This was my first attempt to install one. It does pull down just as you expect. You do need to give it what feels like an uncomfortable amount of force. PULL...it will let go...two pins! GOOD LUCK!

They're not all so hard ... I installed the AUX input in GPMINI in the Hyatt parking lot at Monterey ... I didn't notice any particular difficulty pulling that knee bolster down ...

I also installed a parcel shelf in my GP. I found that a quick jerking motion worked better than steady pressure. As others have commented, it's more force than you instinctively feel comfortable using, but I haven't heard of anyone damaging the thing. Good Luck!

I agree... just pull quickly and hard at each corner. It's more than you think. In fact, I pulled the entire damn thing off on accident. Oops. It wasn't all that difficult to get back on!

Actually, Mine comes down accidentally at inappropriate times. My knees are often on it when I drive due to my height.

just be careful not to scratch your downtube, keep pressure towards the door so that it doesn't rub it as it swings down.
