Will it fry?
I have a question regarding the aux. input that I installed. My question is, if I plug in a portable cassette player, will the wattage output, albeit small, from the player fry the stock head unit? Will it matter how high the volume is turned up on the cassette player to whether or not it will fry, if it does at all?
If the cassette player has a "line out" jack, you can use it without fear, since they use a standard output voltage of about 0.7V peak-to-peak. If you're using the headphone output, you'll be fine anyway, since the aux input is designed to handle the headphone output of an iPod, which can play LOUD.
If you use a headphone output, to get the best signal-to-noise ratio, I'd advise setting the cassette player's volume to about 75%. This will give you the highest output voltage from the cassette player without worrying about distortion or clipping from the cassette player's built-in amplifier. If you need the volume to be louder or softer to listen to the music, you can make further adjustements with the head unit's volume control.

Thanks for the information! I can once again enjoy my tunes as I cruise down the open roads jammin' to the likes of AC/DC, Van Halen, Triumph, Def Leppard and all my other '80s rock bands I have collected on cassettes.
