new MINI owner

i just picked up an 04 mcs jcw from my dad with 15k miles.

i know its been asked before probably, but im trying to find threads or information on performance parts for my mini...like what are the top 5 most chosen performance mods that are the best bang for the buck and get you the most power? i will be browsing through these forums all day today at work reading up more on mini's, and i plan to stick around as i will have this car for a while, and i love it. ill post pics later today if i can find some while at work.

Since you have a MCS with the JCW, there ain't a laundry list of easy power upgrades. You already have a supercharger pulley, a free flow exhaust, bigger fuel injectors, an ECU remap, a modified cylinder head, and a set of colder sparkplugs. That is the usual recipe for pepping up a MCS and you've already got it!

There's not a lot left for you to do unless you want to get into some really serious and expensive modifications. If you are not satisfied with the car's acceleration, you should consider going with an '05 or newer transmission with its revised ratios and LSD.

If you're just hankering to do some mods, concentrate on a rear sway bar (most bang for the $$$), and perhaps some comfort/convenience mods like Ian's auto up windows and the Euro Parcel Shelf. An '05 or newer stereo headunit would give you MP3 capability, look stock, and be plug and play. (Just get the right one. HK or non-HK depending on your car). Since you have an '04, adding the rear foglight will give you a full bank of toggle switches.

oh, and im happy with the performance from it, its a fun little car. i wanted a mustang, but i just bought this. i like the insurance and gas milage advantages over a mustang. anything faster than this, ill get in even more trouble that what im already going to get into lol...

but i was just checking if there is any other little things i can add to mod it (performance wise)

does the sway bar just get better handeling and ride quatlity?

There's a thread somewhere that tells exactly, but JCW is something like 14.8%. Each pulley size gives a corresponding increase in supercharger rpm. 15%, 17%, 19%, etc, but the horsepower increase is not linear. As supercharger rpm increases, efficiency DECREASES, and heat increases. Sizes beyond 15% start to eat up belts and do very little to increase performance, but they do increase stress on components. 15% is the sweet spot for a street driven car, but there ARE some folks with other sizes that have no problems.

Very cool looking... Rear sway bar would be a great first mod.

Welcome to NAM

Yep a rear sway bar will improve your handling. As for size I run a H-Sport 19mm & like the improvement it's made for me. It was my second mod. Some others like a bigger rear bar. My first mod was an Ian Cull Auto-Up with track mode.

The best mod is driving school.....If you do read the advice given in the many other threads you will find a common theme......Learn to get the perfomnce out of the car that you already have before adding more. The sway bar advice is good, ONLY if you have been to driving school and know where the limit is. The sway bar will narrow the margin of error and you can find yourself losing the backend in an eye blink.
