R50/53 Rock = ding and chip
Rock = ding and chip
On the highway yesterday and a rock was flung up from and semi and dinged/chipped the front of my hood. I am pretty annoyed about it. I bought the car used (2003) and it was absolutely flawless. Previous owner managed to not get a scratch, ding, nothing... and in 2 months I get a ding and a scratch together.
A chip alone would not be as bad but seeing the dime sized ding along with it SUCKS.
Is there anything that can be done? Would it have to be completely repainted to get a ding and chip out? If thats the case obviously not worth it...
Thanks,
K

In my first week of ownership I had a big rock come out of nowhere and hit the windshield. This never happened on any of my other cars.
It scared the living daylights out of me and it was loud but luckily nothing no noticeable chips were found.
Not sure if you have one where you are but here in Santa Clara we have a Dent Pro that can remove the ding relatively cheap. Then all you would need is some touch up paint.

I agree with Becoka, there are "dent" shops everywhere. They all do a pretty decent job and if there is no chipping or cracking, you might get away without repainting. Just make sure you do a good wax or clay after the repair.
An 03 with no chips. Thats amazing. I got a chip in the bumper on the way home from the dealer, one the next day going to work and two more the next day on a 400 mile trip. Of course I live in SoCal where every freeway is under construction. The car is less than 1 week old and has 4 chips in the bumper all because I couldn't wait to drive the car until I had the clear bra installed the day after my trip (today). I don't have to worry about it now.
Have a paintless dent removal pro fix the dent for you and use touch up paint. There are several threads on how to do a chip repair. Just do a search. Otherwise it will cost you a fortune the have a body shop fix it.

might not be access area up there near the front. depending on how
big and sharp the dent is, you may want to do a small bondo fill and
touch it up. check with your dealer too when their remote touchup
guys come around if your PDR folks can't fix it.

Tell me about it. The car was absolutely flawless. Other than curbed wheels the car looked brand spaking new. It is still in amazing condition but I am just annoyed with the situation. I will stop by a paintless dent repair place and see what they will charge to get the dent out. After that it seems like there are a few systems out there that can almost completely mask the chip. Its not a spec chip but more elongated...
One thing I have going for me is that its dark silver... That color should be easier to mask imperfections...
I may looking into a clear bra... but that still would not have stopped the dent.
