Magnaflow Exhaust

I have the Magnaflow exhaust on my 2002 Mini Cooper. I dont drive it very often because I have my 2004. The exhaust note is great, but very loud. I want to start using my '02 as my daily driver. My question is...do you think the police will bug me about the exhaust being too loud?
Thanks

The Magnaflow I used to have on my '03 MC was custom fabricated over at Kenny's Muffler on Lincoln Avenue in Cypress. (I work just over the bridge in L.A. County in H.G.) It was on my Cooper for about 2 and a half years and I never once got pulled over for its volume level.

I now have that cool Megan exhaust. My wife thinks it's actually louder than the Magnaflow with its deep growl. I've yet to be pulled over for this one. (I heard there're certain motocops in Cerritos that might be a bit zealous in their modified exhaust enforcement however.)

Kenny's mufflers is pretty well next door to me haha. Cerritos cars can be bad, but usually will leave you alone. La Palma cops are the worst around here.

I have been through areas known for pulling people over with the Fast/Furious style exhausts, and have not been bothered with the Magnaflow. I think it is the depth of the tone that makes the difference...it isn't as annoying as the raspy one.

I have also been pulled over twice for other reasons, and no mention was made of the exhaust (lots of compliments on the car, though!),

thats true, the magnaflow is deep. but mine is raspy as well and hasnt gotten me pulled over. the crx however I have gotten a warning, and to my ears the mini is louder.

I kinda wanna say its a personal preference for the police

How much HP do you think the exhaust gives? The website says 7hp? Seams alittle too high for me to believe.

ive seen lots of different results. depends on alot of things. I believe some magazine or vendor did a test that came out with the magnaflow creating 9hp. could be wrong though.

You Should! Great Sound and you can also tell there is an increase in power.

Grassroots Motorsports did a dyno test of a few different cooper exhausts I can't remember the numbers but i remember the helix13 and magnaflow where best for hp/high rpm and the miltek made the most torque/low rpm

I did read this article a while ago but it is prolly still on the webpage, i can't find it right now though

As for my magnaflow experience...
never had cops negatively comment on it, when i took it for emission and inspection testing (in VA) the tech said he thought it sounded sweet and did my car first that could have been related to the fact everyone else had left their cars while i brought a book

when i got pulled over for a blownout headlight the cop also had kind comments to say about my car (as a whole)

the one other time at a red light a cop lowered his window and asked me some questions about the seats cuz he was looking at buying one himself

but then in michgan the cars with "more rust than pipe" exhaust systems are significantly louder then me

Based on the results of my dyno (post magnaflow but prior to being chipped) I saw a 5 HP gain over the dyno of a stock MC.

There was a Magnaflow exhaust used in excellent condition on ebay for $300. The auction has ended but maybe he relisted.
