The alarm...is this just an activation deal?

Do I just need to go to the dealer and say iwant this activated? Or is it a whole system that has to be installed? Right now when I press the lock button, the parking lights flash and that's it. I assume that's not the alarm. Is there some audible confirmation? Any pricing info if it needs to be activated or if anything needs to be purchased?

Just curious.

You have to purchase the alarm. Price varies depending on the year of your MINI. I've been debating this because the parts for an '06 are like $200, and my audio installer can put it in for $75. Tempting.

Your audio installer cannot activate the alarm. That can only be done by the dealership programming the car.

The guy could install an aftermarket one though...

OK, so there's both an install AND an activation? Yes?

The car is already pre wired. The alarm has to be bolted in and then hooked up to a GT-1 or programer and load up some programming.

You can install the alarm yourself, I did mine. Once I had the proper tools and a garage to save my Hawaii aclimated self from the 40 degree weather in Iowa, it only took about 30 minutes... Most of that time is spent carefully unwrapping the plug that goes into the alarm under the bonnet... and cursing and getting bloddy knuckles...
