R50/53 What to do about a ding?
What to do about a ding?
My Cooper, one month old has been dinged. **** me off! And to top it off I know who did it and they are being very evasive and quiet. Anyway, I am going to take it to a dent remover place. Anyone have expierence with dent remover companies. I am in Austin.
I do not want to seem obsessive over a car, but this really sucks. Each time I see it it appears like a crater in the side of the moon.
LGK

I know the feeling. My MINI wasn't even two months old yet when I was on the receiving end of what appeared to be a rather large SUV's door. Of course the SUV was nowhere to be found when I got back to my car, but I did get the ding taken care of as soon as possible. Mine was on the driver's side, a few inches away from the fuel door (I could see it through my side mirror and it made me want to cry everytime).
$80 later, the PDR guy tried his best, but due to the fact that there was a metal plate on the inside (for the fuel door hinge), he was unable to provide a 100% fix. The ding is still there, but it's not as noticeable now.
I'm in Los Angeles so I can't really help you out with PDR services in Austin. Sorry. =(

I sent you a PM as well...but figured I would post it here in case someone else in Austin needs it.
Hey,
I am in Austin as well! Sorry about the door ding
.
The best place I know of in the Austin area is http://www.schrackautopainting.com/services.htm however they are all the way out in Round Rock. The best place that I know in the Austin area is: http://www.dentworks.com/ .

LGK,
I have had great sucess with these paintless dent removers. Saves a lot of time and $$$$.
I have used the Dent Dr., Dent Wizard, Dent Dynamics, etc. I am out here in Northern CA, but you should be able to find someone in the yellow pages.
Suggest that you search the internet as well to see if they are a national chain. Most are and get the same training & tools

i have to agree that PDR on the driver side between the door
and fuel cap is nearly impossible to fix without drilling. it is a
double wall and there's really no access.
circular dings are nearly impossible to fix completely as the
metal is stretched. you might need to take it to a body shop
and having it bondo'ed and repainted.

I had two dings; one might have been caused by a vandal as it was round and very deep. When I took the car in for it's scheduled service at the MINI shop, they had a Dent Wizard guy who offered to remove the dings. They did a very good job---I cannot tell at all where the dings were anymore.
Keep in mind that removing these things does require some skill and care. So, the results may vary depending on who is doing it.

My Mini dealer here in WI (International Mini) just started offering Dent Wizard as a service also. While I was getting paperwork written up for a scheduled service call yesterday (replacing a faulty armrest), this guy walks up to my car, writes something down, and hands me a piece of paper with a quote on it.
He found a ding on my door that must have happened the previous day (I had just waxed my car over the weekend), and a ding on my tailgate that I already knew about.
He quoted $199 to fix both. Given how much the dings were bothering me, it was money well spent. The best part was they did it while I was waiting for my original service call (about an hour). So I didn't have the hassle of making an appointment and coming back in for more service.
I would see if you have something like this at your Mini dealer. Worth every dime IMHO...

Well, I did say how much they were bothering me...
BTW, there were pretty good size dings...something smaller I would just have let go...
