Pulley Install: Red vs Blue loctite and Torque #.

helix 15% pulley on 06 MCS with JCW belt.

Searched through many threads, had some differeing opinions, so i ask two questions:

Red or Blue Locktite?

Torque # for the pulley bolts (i know it is in INCH-lbs.)

thank you!

Blue can be removed using hand tools - marketed as 'removeable'
Red requires 'extreme measures' - aka heat. - marketed as 'permanent'

Did you see Randy using the propane torch on the OEM crank bolt? That's to release the locking compound.

FWIW, Randy used blue on the pulleys he installed in CA.

The difference is in the torque loading they will hold. The blue is regular strength & the red high strength. I read somewhere that the red needs 300 ft lb's to break it loose. The blue breaks loose easily.

Has anyone else used the green loctite. It's so awesome... you could glue your wheels on with it.

The only green loctite that I've seen was called wick & lock. It's been years since I've seen it for sale. It was made to be used on already assembled fasteners. Put a drop on & it wicks down the threads & then hardens. As far as strength it was less than the blue.

I used to get the green with German CV boot kits for BMW's, the packaging was all in German and had a skull and crossbones that took up the whole label on the backside...we refered to it as "Der loctite of Death"
--Blue works just fine for me, no problems reported after 4 1/2 years and many pulleys later
