Suspension sheared off dinan strut brace bolt, now what?
sheared off dinan strut brace bolt, now what?
hi
i borrowed a freinds torque wrench to tighten the dinan strut brace i bought(used) all bolts were fine, one just sheared right off, i was wondering if i can drill it out and put another bolt
also, stripped the strut bolta bit (one of three) its holding, but the metel sure is soft, and i had the torque wrench set for 20 ft lbs, then my next setting would be proper 24 fl lbs
not impressed, with torque wrench or strut brace (and yes, the torque wren ch was tested earlier)
thanks
dan

You could drill out the bolt and replace it with a bolt / nut. the only issue is when you want to install or uninstall it as you almost need a second pair of hands. I survived like that for several months with no issues.
The replacement strut mount is a cheap part (about $30). I'd go ahead and just buy a brand new one since you'll have to dissassemble the suspension to put a new bolt into the mount.
In my case the actual bolt itself pulled out so the hole was ready and waiting .
