Am I fat?

Now that I got your attention... What does my '06 JCW really weigh? I see that all the articles claim the weight at 2678 lbs. Considering that I have all the packages I expected it to be a bit heavier. But, while washing my car today I looked at the door sticker and was shocked to see the GVW of 3498 lbs. That can't be right. That is an 800+ difference. Anyone have any ideas?

No, your OK.

GVW is the maximum weight that should be in the car ... everything included. Even then, there is a safety margin above that. Its a legal regulation thing. BTW that also a "recommendation". Its usally taken seriously in big trucks, thats why they hit the scales.

So unless you weigh like 800 pounds, your cool

However ... if you got all options, dunno maybe 2900 pounds? Add two adults maybe 400 pounds, that leaves 300 pounds to haul the concrete bricks!

The rules for calculating GVW are different in different countries. In some, you have to include the weight of all the fluids, a full tank of gas and the weight of an average size driver (I seem to remember hearing that last one somewhere).

GVW, at least in US, includes all fluids and anything else in the car.

This is much more intended for 18 wheelers with huge loads overloading their suspension. if you go 100 pounds over GVW, I seriously doubt you will do any harm. You know they are going to have a safety factor in any government regulation.

Now there are maximum weight recommendations for tires but they are usally WAY over GVT ratings.
