R50/53 Blue Ridge Parkway WOW
Blue Ridge Parkway WOW
yesterday I drove the BRP from Asheville SE to Sylva and could not have been more blown away..... we took my GFs Miata and the weather was beautiful if not chilly (top up) oe vista was prettier and more expansive than the next..... it is hard for me to believe i have only been on the BRP north of Asheville but this road is amazing.... leaves were beautiful and low trafffic..... the summer traffic is supposed to be very crowded..... for all of you Dragon people this is not far away as well as the Cherhola (sp?) heading east from Robinnsville into TN was beautiful on Friday (rainy, but still very nice)
Definitely a beautiful road. I wish the speedlimit were higher and the rangers were non-existent.
On Friday I drove US19 in light rain from the Waynesville area across Soco Gap (where the Parkway crosses) and down to Cherokee. Also a beautiful drive. The direction I did it you have a nice 2-lanes-up-1-down with sweeping curves to the top, then really twisty 2 laner down. Lots of fun. Really impressed with how well the car felt in the rain with some leaves on the road. Never felt in danger of slipping (course I wasn't going super fast).
Lots of great, great driving in the NC mountains - it's more than just the Dragon.

I drive part of the Blue Ridge Parkway every year, on my way from Tapoco Lodge (at the Dragon) to Greenville, SC for a BMW homecoming event. Always the week before Labor Day weekend. On weekdays, it's not busy at all. The last two years, we haven't seen any other cars. I've yet to see a ranger between Balsam and 276.
276 is a lot of fun too, and Brevard has some great places to eat.

That top is for washing only and should never be used when the Miata is in motion
