Are tires covered under warrenty??

I don't think that tires are covered under warrenty, but before I talke to the dealer I figured I would ask. I just bought the car on 10-18-06 and I already have a nail in my tire. I am sooooo mad as less than 1 month ago on my old car the same thing happend to me and I had to buy a whole new tire. The tires I have are run flats, and are those tires even repairable or do I have to replace the whole tire.

Also can someone tell me if I have the correct tires for my mini? The tires that the dealer put on are: Dunlop SP Sport 9000 DSST 205/45R 17's

The reason I ask is my mini came with 16's rims and they gave me a credit towards buying the rims I have now. I just want to make sure that these are the correct tires that I would have gotten from the factory.

Thanks Ken

Not covered

The tires are not covered...but if you look on NAM for repairing Runflats you will find that there is only a certain area of the tire that can be repaired.

Those are the correct size for 17" wheels.

Good Luck!!!!!

I believe that the tires are under seperate warranty, but warranty implies defect in materials or workmanship. A nail is an external force. You wouldn't expect warranty to supply a new windshield after a rock hit, would you?

If you have a low deductible, you might be able to make a claim against your comprehensive coverage.

i recommend taking it to a Dunlop authorized retailer who does runflats.

they may repair it for free if the puncture is in a patchable location.

goodluck

I bought the separate warranty and, when I got a nail in my tire, they replaced the tire for free. But this was probably because I only had about 700 miles on the car.

I think that the warranty is pro-rated based on the wear/age of the tires. In my case, the replacement made up for the cost of the warranty ,so I made out pretty well.

I once got a flat on my stock run flats. A local tire chain that does free flat repairs (even if you didn't buy the tires from them) was able to patch it just fine. Regardless of what MINI says, run flats can pretty much be patched just like any other tire. So take it to your local tire shop. Even if they charge you, a flat repair is a lot cheaper then a replacement tire!

Well, you are not alone... I got a nail in my tyre less than a month of ownership too!! Of course, I have regular tyres so it was fixable, but still, it makes you mad!

Thanks for all the info. The tire should have no issues being repaired as it is in the center of the tire. I slowly started to unscrew the screw to see if it went all the way through and just my luck it did. It will start to leak when I take the screw out, so I left it in. I will take it to discount tire and have them patch it as they will do it for free. Now should I drive it up there, or take the whole tire off and just bring it to them that way? The place is about 10 miles.

Thanks Ken

Here's the bolt I picked up last night two blocks from home. Got to take the car in to the tire shop this morning when they open to have the hole patched.

Man, my kitchen counter looks really dirty in a close up shot, got to scrub that down.

On 9/29 I had to buy a new wheel & tire after hitting a pothole. The rim was bent & the tire had a slight bubble in it. Two weeks later I'm leaving work to go to a viewing, my girlfriend's dad, and I must of picked up a screw in the parking lot because a minute later the flat tire light comes on and sure enough there is a screw in my new $283 tire. So I go to Pep Boys & see if they have a tire, they don't, apparantly it's a special order item. So the guy suggests I try to plug it. Well I tell him that I read that run flat tires can't be patched, but I really need to get to this viewing so I buy a kit for $8 and fix it myself out in the parking lot. The screw went straight in between the treads. Well it's been a couple of weeks now & the tire seems fine. At first I thought this would just be a temporary fix & I would still need to buy a new tire, but now I think I'm just going to leave it be. So much for not being able to patch run flats. Doesn't it say that in the owners manual?

I picked up a screw in my runflat on Memorial Day. It was repaired and I haven't had any problems with it at all. As long as you didn't drive on the tire while it was flat, they shouldn't have a problem repairing it. I too tried to remove the screw from the tire and when it started to hiss, I just put it back in and took it to a local tire shop the next day and got it repaired for $17.

My wife has only 5,000 miles on her countryman and today I saw one of her tires has a blister in the sidewall. She says she has not hit any big pot holes so I am wondering if it is a defect in the tire. I don't even know how you would prove that to get the tire covered. Do all of you have this happen a lot on RFT? Her tires are 205 55 17. I have run all the time on low profile tires around 45 to 40 and never had this problem. I just don't know if the RFT are real bad about blistering the side walls.
