Motorola IHF 1000 Blue tooth
Hello everyone,
I just want to let you guys know that I've recently installed the IHF 1000.
It is the new "voice recognition" unit motorolla has on the market.
Works quite well.....
Voice recog is not perfect, when the windows are down, or lots of road noise, it struggles a bit.
Overall I'm very happy with the unit. Install was fairly easy. audio quality (I used the provided speaker) is good.
Upon activating the system or rec'ving a call... it automatically interrupts the radio.
I'll post some pictures of my setup soon.
Thanks
Donald

How much time did it take...what did you need to pull, etc.
I have one of those sitting in my basement and want to get it installed this weekend!
Also...did you figure out how to mute the radio automatically.
I agree with soilsample & chows4us, this is a really good bluetooth system. I like that you can have up to 4 bluetooth phones connected. Voice rec could be better but we really do not own the most quite cars to start with. The oem bluetooth in my grand cherokee (motorola supplied) is miles better in that regard. Here's a couple of pics:

mic location. (Note the reverse location of the sunroof switch)

Speaker is mounted on the cargo shelf, so sound quality is awesome.

I would also add that the RANGE is awesome.
I was coming down the street today when the thing said "phone 1 connected"
I was at least 40 yards from my wife. She had HER cell phone on inside the house. How cool is that?

What is the motorola ihf 1000?
I use a motorola flip phone E815 (I think that's the model) with verizon service. I have the basic Motorola HS 850 "hang over the ear" blue tooth headset. This phone/headset combo works very well for me as both use the same car charger, but I'd be interested in hearing more about the IHF 1000.
Is the IHF 1000 the built-in car version of my little hang-over the ear headset? Cost? DIY install?
EDIT
Ok, I answered my own questions... Motorola.com shows it at $299 MSRP and says "pro" installation required. Do any of you who use this also have the little "hang over the ear" headsets and could give me your impression of the comparison? One of the few problems with my HS 850 headset is that it can be difficult to hear some callers when driving at interstate speeds. Does the IHF 1000 have volumne and clarity to overpower typical MINI road noise at highway speeds?

There are several options for you to look into, all are better than a Bluetooth headset. That's not to say that Bluetooth headsets are bad, I'm on my second one, and I find them extremely useful.
The Motorola is one option, however good kits are also available from Parrot (www.parrot.biz) and Nokia as well. The plus side to the Parrot and Nokia kits over the Motorola kits is that you can purchase a harness from Newministuff in the UK that will run the audio out from the bluetooth kit through your car stereo with no splicing needed. If you have a Jan '05 or newer with MFSW newministuff's harness should also tie into your MFSW as well, check with them for compatibility.
Usually the built in kits ARE loud enough to overpower normal road noise, however you'll probably have the best results with the kits that tie in through the radio as opposed to using a seperate loudspeaker.
Sony also makes kits which I used to use in my own car. However, after having three of them fail on me, I can't recommend them...
Personally I'm probably going to pick up an Parrot CK3100 in the next few weeks for both of my cars. I'm tired of doing without a kit, and there's a shop that sells and installs the Parrot kit near me. I hate pulling the dash apart, so I'm willing to pay the cash to have somebody else do it...

Dont know about Parrot but the IHF is the top of the line MOT that can handle four phones ... good if your SO also drives the car. Major pain if it can't handle more than one line
The kit comes with its own speaker. The speaker is specifically designed for the human voice frequencies. Car Stereo speakers are NOT. BIG difference after you actually hear and use the difference.
Yup, it overpowers everything, stereo including. Clearly, if your going to make a call, your going to turn the stereo down anyway. Calls coming in are no issue either.
The big advantage is its just and works. You don't have to think about anything. A word to use the wise though. Do not pay list price. Amazon sells them for $220 now. If your in a metro area there are usually ppl around who will come to your house and install in your driveway ... takes about one hour.
I've now added the 1000 to my two new cars. Can't imagine being without it.
BTW, I think the MOT 1000 can mute the MINI stereo.
I thought that the IHF 1000 was new.... just new to me, sorry.
I bought it on eBay from "cell4less" or something like that for $189.00
Installation only took a little over an hour
I installed the speaker on the passenger's side down low. It is mounted just past the bonnett latch. Very inconspicuous.... I had to show my wife twice before she figured out it was there.
The microphone is at the top of the "a pillar" which I've been told may not be the "best" location..... but it's easy and works well.
The blue control box is located with 3m tape under the steering column (hidden by the knee bolster - nice fit).
I'm very proud of the way my control pod is mounted.... I took an old scrap of a plastic box and cut out a section of the bottom edge. This piece is like a little plastic piece of angle iron about 2" long. I used 3m tape to secure it below the switch pannel, then stuck the control pod to it. Looks very nice and finished. No visible wire....
Wiring is fairly easy. remote on, constant 12v, ground, radio mute, I believe that's all the wires that need to be connected. I just tapped into the radio's harness for all connections (didnt go to fuse box).
My radio is alpine with a dedicated mute wire.... I think the factory radio has this wire but I'm not sure which color.
I'll get pictures of my install asap.
