Can you convert the headlamps from halogen to the factory xenon Lights?

Yes, there's even a set of MINI Retrofit instructions....but it's mighty expensive to do

I noticed that in the instructions there is no mention of the height sensor. Was that feature not present on the pre-2005 HID models?

Yes that feature was present on 02-04 cars.
