Crashes and Re"cooper"ations

So Does anyone have any crash stories and Repair stories to share?

I found out the wrong way that you have to report all of your mod's to the insurance company if you hope to have replacement part for part in crashes and repairs, Not to mention the night mare of dealing with body shops that don't have a clue about mini's and where to get parts.

I was ten hours away from my home for my accident and had to leave her
broken busted and disqusted
in a different state with people I don't know and just cross my fingers
then endure a ten hour ride home in a Korean Krap Car

A month and one week later and Still don't have her back

We just got Gromit out of the shop after an accident. All of my repairs were to OEM items, but it took 3x longer to get the parts than it did to fix the car. My dealership doesn't do bodywork, so we found a local body shop that does a lot of classic/show cars. They got parts through a my MINI dealership's parts dept, but had problems with parts being out of stock, back ordered, etc. All total, it was about 5 weeks for the repairs.(And a LONG 5 weeks!)

Our insurance was no problem. We got home after the accident on a Thursday night, Friday evening we had a check and Gromit was in the shop. There were some additional parts and repairs found after the work began, and the insurance company authorized repairs with no problem. We have even been told that if any additional problems arise that can be attributed to the accident, just take it to the body shop and they will take care of it.

i have a 2002 mini i bought salvaged. Someone crashed into a poll. I replaced the bonnet, and the front bumber, the left head light and the radiator. Good as new. Paid 5k spent less than 1k for all the work. Most costly was the painting(which is now peeling a tad)

The worst part was finding the parts my previous owner had put on her. Her bumpers and flares were so tough to find and then once they finally arrived apparently there is something that has to be fab'ed to get them to come together - which is mysterious. You would think the guy I bought it from would have told me something needed to be done extra when we called him all red in the face needing the information.

I'm not sure what is worse - The leaving it with a shop I know nothing about - but was approved by the insurance - or finding out three weeks into them having it (having done nothing at all in the three weeks) that the guy working on my car didn't have any idea what a bonnet was.

Or could it be the Hynudai the rental company gave me to drive - now we have to pay for it because we are past our thirty days on the ins. coverage.
Well, I am just heart broken

I will post pics of captain later but some a@#hole hit my MCS while it was parked last friday night (and left no info at all), luckily Patrick MINI has a body shop so im not worried about how its gonna get fixed, the damage was on the rear bumper and right under the brake light, at least there was no damage to the suspension! i wont get captain back til next week and i miss driving my car

I have a LY Mini also and that picture gave me the shakes. That's awful, hope you get everything straightened out so you can get back to driving your baby.

My MC was hit and totalled. Fortunately it was covered by another insurance company. Mine would have just covered what was insured - the base car (I never reported my mods for fear of increased rates). I was able to show the other insurance company receipts of my mods and they 'covered' them.

Ultimately, with the high resale value of the MINI, I was able to buy an 06 with the money from my 04 settlement (minus 1 big mod). I could have gotten another 04 MC and replaced all my mods, but opted for the new warranty and free scheduled maintenance.
