R50/53 Clubs - Why or Why Not?
Viva DCMM

Never thought of it being an issue, as I didn't buy the car for its social aspect, just because it's a great fun little car.
Then I went to the PittStop (Pittsburgh PA) Fall Foliage tour on the advice of my salesguy at Mini of Pittsburgh (see Graham, he's great). I was a little worried that it'd be like a gathering of Saturn owners (don't ask), but it was pretty cool. Brought my 14 y/o son and we had a blast driving, visiting, meeting, and hearing lots of stories from lots of different folks. OK, maybe a little bench racing too. Lots of diversity in ownership attitudes, degrees of motorheadedness, modifications, etc.
Don't take our advice though - I'd say join, attend a major event (not "just" a dealer open house, but something that involves driving), then decide yourself on your level of participation. Most clubs are fairly welcoming, I've been led to understand.
At the worst, you get to drive your Mini for the fun of it... not a bad downside.

Yes, to enjoy the company of other MINI enthusiasts and have FUN. I have wanted to get something started in our area but life keeps interrupting me.

Interesting questions...
A few years ago I never would've thought of myself as a "car club" girl. Then my brother bought a MINI and the transformation into a family of British car enthusiasts began. I bought mine knowing full well the benefits of the MINI lifestyle. I joined my local club (West Coast MINIs) right before I took delivery of Malibu Stacy, and it's been great for me. I can't imagine a better group - we really are like a family. And of course, that's where I met my SO.

Quite a few Philly-area members... even a couple from the Lancaster area.

Our MINI club is the best feature of the car for me. :P
Yes I belong to multiple (even helped to start one), just not my local, yet.
It's just plain fun.
(Besides when there are a handful of enthusiasts in a town and the nearest dealers are over 70 miles away it can save lots of headaches. Not to mention oyu grow handy working on MINIs and can help each other mod and do some routine maintanence. And YOu can share other non MINI hoobies like photography (half the club took photography pretty seriously))

Yes, Yes and why?
What is the purpose of this poll?
Car Clubs have existed as long as ... well as long as their have been human beings and cars
"Usually", I believe, they serve dual purpose depending upon the club.
Some clubs are mostly social with very few driving events.
Some clubs are all about the driving ... local autox, local DE events, road rallyes and do little socializing.
That has been my experience.

I am part of the St. Louis MINI Club. I love every minute of it. We get together for drives, happy hours, car shows, and anything else that relates to MINIs. We have a blast when we get together. MINI owners are a diverse, fun group of people.
Last weekend we got together in the Ozarks and did a 60 mile poker run. We had about 60 miles of driving the twisty back roads (some of us at great speeds). We had fun, contests, and prizes.
We try to at least get together once a month for a happy hour just to hang out. We go on driving events 4-5 times a year. And lots of other various events in between.

Yup & yup!
One aspect I love about being in a MINI club is that you meet a wide variety of people while still having a common connection. Since I've been in my local club (DCMM), I've noticed that there's not a 'typical' MINI driver, unlike many other clubs.

Although being new to the whole mini thing, I am actually thinking about joining the club here in pittsburgh. It would be a great way to meet other mini owners and possibly learn more info about my mini. Not to mention that the people here seem really nice. Would like to meet them in person
Got my Mini in Feb. 06. Never was a "car enthusiast" before. Stumbled upon NAM and then Sunshine Minis, went to the Dragon (my first offical Mini event), then started going to several local Sunshine Events. I've really enjoyed it. The people have been great. The funny part is, that at most of the events, there isn't that much focus on the Mini's themselves. It's kinda like there is this shared bond of being obsessed with this car and knowing that for a moment in time you are surrounded by like minded people.
