Road Trip with 19% Pulley

Well I just got back from a trip to Gainesville to visit some friends and decided that next time I went up I would take my car, if possible. I'm thinking of going up in a couple of weeks but I have one concern. I have a 19% pulley on my car and was wondering if there would be any problem with it for cruising. I'm sure I would cruise at about 4,000-4,300 RPMs. I am not concerned about cruising at under 4,000 but was wondering if there would be any issues with the belt and heat from the s/c at a steady 4,000 RPM cruise on the highway? Anyone with a 19% pulley that has done a road trip please chime in. What was the highest RPM you maintained? TIA.

I've just got to wonder where your going to cruise at that speed for an extended period of time without worrying about "Johnny Law"?

done many not that fast

My parents live 2.5 hours away I have made plenty of trips back and forth with the 19% installed. I must admit though I don't think I'm humming along at 90-95 at all on the trip.

Best of luck, keep you eyes pealed and V1 on.

Just a friendly reminder..... Be very careful driving up there. There have been pretty bad accidents in the Turnpike (4 people died this weekend on their way to Universal Studios just 30 miles off Kissimee/St. Cloud) in recent days and cops (FHPs) are not taking excuses from speeders. 90-95 MPH will land you a hefty fine and points off your license. Posted speed limit is 70. Go 75-80 and you should be fine. Arrive alive even if it takes you a little while longer.

Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are EVERYWHERE along the Turnpike. The last thing you want to do is to attract the attention of a bored cop. Those guys aren't taking any excuses for wreckless speeding.

I have over 5000 miles on my 19% pulley, a lot highway, and yeh, speeding, but no problems whatsover. Why is there lingering fear of the 19%?

well, you have not yet proclaimed you actually cruised at such a ridiculous speeds on the US highways and byways and proclaiming you shall "whenever possible" ... I just don't get it.

Why advertise that to anyone?

I just don't get the public proclamations of intended traffic lawlessness Sigh ... IBTL

Come on guys, we are all supposed to be friends on this site. I think posting "IB4TL" in this case is incredibly rude; he's been around NAM.com for a long time and is no newbie talking about street racing, etc.

02///MCS, I suggest you backspace the 90-95 mph and replace it with "cruising @ 4-4.3k rpm in 6th gear". Then hopefully you will get some opinions.

If I was a NAM moderator, I would consider locking the thread if any wreckless driving was mentioned. In his case, we can assume interstate speed limit is 70mph; wreckless driving, at least in TN, is >30mph over posted limit.

We just completed a 2100 mile roadtrip, but not with a 19%er. But that's not why I'm IB4TL.

We cruised at or close to 75 all the way up and down 77/26/95. And several times we were passed by cars doing around the 90 mph range. It was very disconcerting. And I've been driving a long time all around the world.
My son's a LEO and he rejoices when he gets a 90 mile an hourer. He opines that they need jail time.
An ex-coworker of mine was just killed in his Miata by a driver haulin down the freeway at around 90, the 90 mile an hourer went to change lanes but mis-judged his distance and rearended the Miata. The driver of the Miata was killed and his 16 year old daughter was injured.

Idiots. Plain and simple.

You've got to be kidding me man. RIDICULOUS SPEEDS??? its just 10 over what people are suggesting on here. Whenever possible means OPEN ROAD and no Johnny Law in sight. Honestly I didn't mean to "advertise" anything just wanted some input about cruising at 4300-ish RPMs in any given gear. Your post is ridiculous IMO, IBTL would have sufficed jerk.

On the turnpike/I-95 it is not uncommon for drivers (including cops) to cruise at 85ish whenever the road is clear.

I don't think anyone here wants to come down "hard" on the original poster. But the point I was trying to make is that driving 20-25MPH above the posted speed limit can get you in trouble and is plain dangerous for the reasons we all already know.

If a live can be saved, then it is all worth it.

I'm not afraid of the 19% I installed it didn't I lol. I just know that when at about 4700 and above for an extended period of time I can smell burnt rubber, and I assume its the belt.

Also, sorry for any losses due to speeders and all the fuss my post created. However, I do not find that speed "wreckless" considering most people drive about 5-10 under what I previously posted.

MODS lock the thread if you will, NAM has gotten ridiculous. A person can't make a post asking a question without having NAM-patrol and Nay-sayers posting unneeded remarks without providing ANY useful information.

Thanks rough68fish and chaincoopers for giving me some input. If anyone has any more input about cruising at 4000rpm-4300 in ANY gear for an extended period of time with a 19% i'd appreciate the input.

I did not take offense at your post BTW, mainly I was referring to chow4us who has a history for being NAM-patrol about several things. There are ways to say things (kindly, as you did) and ways not to. I think most misunderstood my post as a steady X-mph cruise the entire trip. I meant occasionally as usual cruise is what was suggested of 75-80.

Cops are also big time speeders and they have caused accidents because of their "above the law attitude".

There is no reason for a cop to break the posted speed limit unless they are in an actual call or emergency. Couple of weeks ago a woman (Run over as she was crossing the street) was killed in Broward by a cop going 91+ MPH in a 45 MPH zone, with no siren, lights and he was not in a call (Actually, they end of his shift).

I personally HATE the way people drive down here in South Florida. Rude and plain dangerous describes most motorists down here. When I am in the turnpike, I drive in the right lane and set my cruise to 72-75MPH and presto and get whenever I need to go without putting my skin in danger.

I get passed by SUVs (all sizes) going easily over 95MPH. Then people wonder why there are so many bad fricking wrecks in this state. People abuse speed and the "Pedal to the metal" driving mentallity is the recipe for trouble.

I don't care if Juan, Joe or Jose speed.... That doesn't make it "right". I just don't do it. It is illegal and dangerous. My life is worth much more than shaving off minutes/hours from a road trip. Plain and simple

Sorry no details here but your not going to have any issues if your belt and belt drive system is healthy. If you have more than 10,000 miles on the belt change it before you go just for peace of mind. As with any road trip a pre-drive inspection of all the critical points should be performed.

Agreed on all counts. But I'm not one of those drivers.

On a side note, CHOWS, what exactly do you call "spirited driving" that nearly EVERYONE on NAM says they do... you know what cops call that "wreckless driving".. euphamisms (sp?) are great lolol.

Not directed at you at all. Just airing my frustration with the driving population of South Florida

I personally, don't know how you drive, so it would be terribly unfair to say that you are one of "those" wreckless drivers that abound in our streets

I think "Spirited" driving means pushing the car a little harder in terms of acceleration, handling and braking, without endangering or compromising the integrity of the driver, vehicle and those around you.

Wreckless driving is simply driving in a manner that breaks the law and has no regard for the safety/well being of others and oneself.

I posted before reading your other post, sorry. The spirited driving question was directed to chows, as is reflected by the edit. Thanks man, I don't mind people looking out at all, but chows bothers me haha.

BTW, about MoM, when is the next auto-x event you guys are going to? I think I remember Oct. 22nd or so? Do you ever head out to Moroso?
