Magnaflow Cat-back non-S

Anyone with a Magnaflow cat-back on their non-S cut out the resonator? My exhaust just started a peculiar rattle @ the 4000RPM threshold & I think something in the resonator is loose or broken. It still requires further investigation, but I was considering just cutting it out... and while I'm at it, perhaps even cut out that "plug" at the muffler exit. I dunno... too little back pressure after all that?

I have it, and im very familiar with that rattle. I thought it was the bolt touching the heat shield at first

The "rattle" I have is NOT right. As I mentioned, it just started recently. I'd hear it come and go as the RPMs would go through 4k. Today I just parked it and maintained 4000 RPM and that nasty sound sustained like a rasp from hell out of the fart cannon on some of those rice rockets. I'm thinking of grabbing my stock exhaust out of storage tomorrow so I can take the Magnaflow off for a look.

well, the rattle im talking about occures at about 4k as well, or around there. My clamp that was provided is positions crooked so it wouldnt drag.. I dont know why I thought it would. But that noise scared me when I first heard it and it seemed like it was coming from the resonator area. So I took it apart and didnt come up with anything. later I thought about that little clamp and figured at 4k (the magnaflows lowest/loudest range in my opinion) was probably touching. I know alot of exhausts expand under heat as well. Does it sound like you have an exhaust leak? perhaps its a loose gasket.

I have had the clamp rattle, too, as justintime described. It is easily fixed by moving the clamp bolt or bending the heat shield. Autopia, your noise does not seem to be the animal. I'm wondering if you get any vibration along with the noise (which would suggest something loose). If not, I'd guess a loose connection/fried gasket/hole somewhere.

Have you considered checking the header and cat for poor connection or holes?
