Are these intended to be used as a front and rear combination?

Do you have any pics of the rear and dimensions yet? The diameter, whether they are hollow, and if they are either the modulus of the material or the effective rate would be great!

Thanks,
Randy

randy,

generally do we want a higher or lower modulus (E) as swaybar material. i know that the higher the value of E goes, the more brittle the material, and vise versa for more ductile materials. how are swaybars designed?

It looks as if the rate is 18mm for the rear. Even with going to a 19mm rear and a 27mm front, you are basically back to stock as far as understeer goes, only flatter. I really wonder why they aren't going stiffer in the rear? I have found that without any camber adjustment in the front to go more negative, you need a larger rear bar and no front bar. Keep us posted on the modulus! Thanks for the info Alex.

$400 for sways? I got my Eibach sways for closer to $350, 25mm front and 19mm rear, million mile warranty.

I am sorry that it has taken so long to reply.

To answer your question about H&R's sway bar material, they use ‘inductively’ treated 55CrV4 alloy. This inductive treatment hardens the material from the inside out, giving much more resilience and toughness than other alloys.

The figures for this material are as follows:

Tensile Strength 1150 – 1300N/Mmm^2 (Mpa)
Modulus of Elasticity (E-Module) 210000N/mm^2 (Mpa)

You may say that stiffness can be duplicated using a different diameter bar, but that does not mean that the quality is equal. Because H&R steel is a spring material – hence it’s inherent resilience, it is very difficult to bend, and maintain, specific dimensions.

Of course H&R will never cut corners, so they invested in a CNC bending machine specifically for this material. After the material is bent, the ends are ‘forged’, and the bar is powder coated.

H&R sway bars feature maintenance free Teflon lined polyurethane bushings are included with every kit, giving uncompromised street performance.

Concerning the MINI specifically, we have released a 18mm rear bar first. H&R's engineers in Germany did extensive testing and development on these cars and found that the adjustable 18mm bar gave the best balance and drivability.

Realizing that what may work perfectly on the Nurburgring may not be perfect at Road America, H&R will be releasing a North American specific, 19mm rear sway bar in the coming months.

I'll keep you updated

Alex

Great info Alex! Thanks!

Is the bar tubular or solid?
