Question on shock upgrade?

I was wondering if the rear shocks are interchangeable between the S and Non S models? I have 84000 miles on my 03 MINI and just today started hearing a strange noise (clunking and rumbling alittle at slow speeds over bumps) in the right rear and I can only think it may be the shock. I would like to replace with maybe some MINI S take offs that someone may have upgraded to preformance shocks. What years are interchangeable if any? Thanks
Blake

I think the rear shocks are the same on all years (the front, however are different for the very early cars).

If your cooper has the SS+, then you already have "Cooper S" shocks.

I am getting an 02 MCS with the original shocks. I want to lower the stance. The people I am buying the mini from Have an 06 JCW MCS and they have the original OEM shocks leftover from the JCW install. They offered the OEM shocks to me. So Here's my question should I just get a new set of shocks and springs to get that lowered look or would the OEM Shocks with some Lowering springs be a good alternative?

The 02 shocks are stiffer then the 06 shocks, they changed the oil in them around mid year '04. If they are in good shape I would go with the '02 shocks and a set of springs. You might as well take the other shocks as well. It could save you a few bucks down the road.
