Rear Brake Light

Was coming back from a trip to Maine this past week, stopped to fill her up and noticed that the red plastic cover on the upper brake light was gone. Not quite all of it, a small piece of the red plastic was still on.
No signs of anything hitting the lens or the surrounding area, no dents, scratches.
I have covered it over to prevent any moisture from getting down in there until I get a replacement.
Any thoughts out there?

Its LED so it should be ok, i would just go pick up a replacement piece at the dealership, that was one of the first things i swapped on my car, i replaced the red one with a clear one from the dealership.

There are a couple threads on this, as it has happened to a few people. My red lens broke off in the car wash somehow. I bought a clear one from the dealer and replaced it myself. The light was about $75.

My old 03's rear lens cracked, but didn't come off.
