R50/53 Should my right xenon headlight point higher?
Should my right xenon headlight point higher?
Good morning,
I got my rocket-car about three weeks ago, and noticed that the right xenon headlight (the blue low-beam) points slightly higher than the left.
Not sure if I need an adjustment, or if this is intentional so I can see as far as possible without blinding oncoming drivers. Whad'ya think?

I've noticed that the light pattern from mine is lower right about where oncoming cars would be. I think this is indeed intentional, as a safety feature for oncoming cars. The right is taller, because it will never be shining into the eyes on oncoming motorists.
My '05, delivered in Oct '04, had both the Xenons pointing too low, leaving me with outstandingly lit pavement up to 30-ft in front of me. And others have had the same problem -- see threads below.
Dealer wouldn't do anything about mine.
I used the standard mark-against-a-wall, back off on flat ground, and mark the light pattern, adjust. See the 2nd thread below. I can't find the thread that had the photos, but if you keep track of how the pattern changes, you can figure out which direction to turn the screws. Don't give up quickly looking for the adjusting screws -- they're not quick and easy to find. Adjust with power off so you don't fry yourself -- there's high voltage in there.
I tweaked mine up, can see much farther, haven't got anybody flashing me as if I had my brights on.

Not just Xenons either, my right standard headlight is slightly higher than the left...I just figured it was normal, makes sense.

The "uptick" in the beam pattern is there to light up road signs, but the left and right headlamps' horizontal cutoffs should be even with one another.

The right xenon should be higher, for reading road signs, and seeing further up the side of the road.
I had my dealer adjust mine slightly higher than the factory setting, and have had no problems with being flashed by oncoming traffic.
