Pick a plate in Illinois!

I just saw on the news that we finally have a website to visit when requesting vanity plates! In the TV interview, Jessy White says that the old method of choosing 3 plates at a time "could go on for months." No kidding!! It took 4 months of lost certified mail and calls and faxes to finally get my plates.

The worst part about it - 2 weeks after I sent in my money to pay for the plates, I get another letter telling me I was awarded one of my other choices!!

Go get a custom plate: http://www.ilsos.gov/PickAPlateWeb/index1.html

I picked the Organ Donor plates again. Its for a good cause and I think it's an honor to have a plate commemorating the late, great Walter Payton.. my childhood sports hero. It'll read: "MCTOP DN".

Can't wait until they arrive

Well I went to the DMV today, No line (my seceret, live out in the boonies hehe). Filled out the paper work for my specialty plate, not getting custom letter # combo like I planned cause it was $100 more than the website said. When I mention the website I had gotten farther throught he process than anyone at the DMV!!!!!

I did that once. Never again.

Nobody ever believes me when I say that I've never spent more than 5 minutes in line at the Sec. of State offices in the Loop, especially at the secret Express office in the basement of the County Building. It took more time for my DL photo to be processed than the entire rest of the time in the office.

Does anyone know about if old personalized plates ever become available again? I was playing with the website, and every plate that I've had before was still listed as unavailable. One of the plates hasn't been registered since 2000. If I still have the physical plates, can I re-activate them?

Probably... I have a direct number to the vanity plate dept down in Springfield. PM me if you want it. After their screw up, one call directly to Springfield resolved everything.

Dunno about personalized plates ... but I tried to reactivate my original Organ Donar plates. It had a low number but I didn't transfer them when I got my MCC. I called the DMV and they said I can do so as long as no one else has them, but I would have to pay for each renewal I didn't pay . SO, not only would I have to pay for whatever fees they could slap on me.. but also for a year in which the plate sat in my garage unused. They say this is to "bridge" the use of the plate .

Unless you REALLY want that plate back, you better check how much they're going to bleed you... then decide.

Mine came today as well. My new registration is all hand written which is a first in IL for me. Have the rear plate on, still need to pick up some more supplies for my front plate tonight.

Well I was shooting for "R 53" but because I had to go and do it in person they said it would be an addition $75 to select what I wanted. So I just ened up getting 4 numbers. I got the LE plates so its got a yellow rose across most of it, with a logo on the left side. Looks much better than the standard IL plate IMO.
