How rare are the JCW's ?

Hi, I'm looking at the Barrington Ill' JCW IB 2003 MCS JCW. Over the weekend someone I was talking to said the JCW's were pretty rare, but I have seen many on this website for sale, how rare are they? This one is #S1338

Older models with JCW are rather rare since it was a very expensive dealer-installed option. Now that you have been able to order them from the factory, they are not quite so unusual anymore.

Still, they will always be "rare", but there are plenty of them out there too.

I've got serial no# 13010, received my car 8 July 06. Since they sold the 150,000th car on 31 May 06 in the USA along with the other 650,000 cars world wide, do the math. Also at the time I ordered mine at the end of May, Mini USA advised me that less than 500 had been sold for 2006 at that time!

How rare are the JCW's ?

I can't answer the question for you but for what it's worth I took delivery of my 2006 JCW MCS, build date 4/27/06, on July 7th. The Tuning Kit number is S 12511 and my assumption is that they are numbered for world wide distribution, not just the states.

Hope this helps....

Jcw

Mine was the eleventh one the dealer had modified in our city. They are numbered for world wide distribution on the kits. Not sure what they did after it became a factory option.

Jcw

Had the JCW kit installed in SEP/OCT 04, when it went on sale. Patrick had three in stock, I got # S5050. Sounds like you found a relatively early JCW.

NO, that is not correct. Sorry, but MCS only. Only 82K MCS sold in US and I would bet at least half of the 650K worldwide are MC or MINI Ones.

At 13K units you looking at maybe 4% of MCS worldwide with JCW. A guess.

I stand corrected, but on the otherhand, once they are modifed or built they seem more like a separate model within the total production. Not a fact, just a feeling!

The JCW is rare but you are in the right place to find one. Those who do opt for a JCW are almost always real enthusiasts and this is the place where all the enthusiasts come to talk shop and put thier cars up for sale the second a new feature is introduced

There is the old JCW Tuning Kit for the '02-'04 MC that is extremely rare. It was ~$3K installed for ~12hp, rare cause it was too pricey. Only seen one guy on here that has one.

Well if used $ value is any indicator, perhaps not so rare...

Just to see what Mini Finance thought an '06 JCW would be worth at the end of a three year lease I asked what the lease residuals values were between a JCW MCS and MCS. Surprisingly the JCW was 4% below the MCS (if I recall correctly 56% vs 60%).

The JCW Kit for the MCS adds ~40hp the JCW Kit for the MC was ~12hp. Sorry to confuse.

If you are looking for a rare MINI, I have the impression that the DINAN S2 (Engine Modification with Stage 5/6 software, Stage 3 suspension, DINAN numbered S2 plaque) is quite rare. I should think that the additional Brembo brake package would make that vehicle even rarer. I recently asked my dealership if there were any S2 vehicles in this province and there is only 1 so far. I posted to see if there were any S2 owners out there but so far there has been no response. If you choose to have a JCW you will have a very nice vehicle, relatively rare, and a MINI that you should be very proud to own.

Thanks BLKDINAN. I saw a Dinan MCS on E-bay and did not know what it was. It did not sell as most cars on e-bay.

ahh... that is possible. Anytime you go over the board luxary you hit a hard wall with buyers. MOST people dont value all that you bought, they value the middle of what you bought. MC cooper regulars actually have a very high resale value as most people just want the style and the quality. I never ever heard of or have seen an MCS out of the now 13 mini's me and my family has looked for on Long island NY.

I would say that 3/4's the mini's out there are the fun Cooper regulars. really, they are such a great value, its hard to cough up the 3k extra for an MCS.

Of course, I just did that. I hope i get to drive it one day soon... zzz.. never seems to come!

See http://www.gbmini.net/sales.shtml

There are more MCS sold in the US than MC. There used to be more MC but that changed about 2004.

It's about 50/50 for me. I have an MC and a MCS JCW.
