I am very close to buying a slightly used MCSa. The car was purchased by the original owner in the beginning of January 2006; it was built in October 2005 (I think). I want to make sure that I am buying a 2006 model. Can anyone tell me when the 2006 model started to be built?

Model year production usually begins in the calendar month of September in the year preceeding. So if your car was manufactured in October of 2005, it should be a 2006 model year.

 

Correct. The date printed on the inside of the driver's side door can be misleading.

Check to see if the original sticker for the car is around to know for sure the car's year of production.

 

Thanks so much for the quick replies. I hate to ask a silly question, but what did you mean when you said look at the "original sticker" for the car? I'm a bit new to this, as this is my first car purchase in years (former New Yorker).....

I believe they are talking about the original dealer window sticker. This is the large sheet of paper that comes on the window listing all the required information about the car. It will list the exact year, factory accessories, engine, transmission and EPA MPG ratings. My dealer carefully removed mine and put it in the owners manual pouch. Very nice.
