Yet another home brew trailer hitch
Just thought I'd post a couple pics of this thing I made in case somebody needed an idea or two.
The first (only) time I towed with it, the safety chains and hitch got rather hot. Next time I'm going to be more careful about where the chains hang. I think they conducted heat to the draw bar.
Haven't figured a way to cover the grille holes when the hitch is removed. Might epoxy some rare earth magnets on the grilles and put magnetic grille badges over them.
Cheers,
Paul

Wow! Thanks for all the kind words!
Me and my brothers did it on a friday afternoon and saturday. We weren't moving too fast and sometimes beer slowed us down even further. I think I was building a trailer while the paint was drying too....
You can see more about it at my website. Not sure I'll leave it up there forever, but it shows some of what was involved.

Spent a lot of time just figuring out what to make. The actual making of the parts wasn't a big deal. Oh yeah, there was tapping holes with a metric tap (several times) and being confused why the tap didn't work well in the non-metric hole. We wasted a lot of beer on that step.
Cheers,
Paul
