R50/53 Click sound at front end
Click sound at front end
i have a 2006 MC, 5 speed with 9500 miles. i have been hearing a clicking sound at low speeds, usually while decelerating or accelerating. basically, just one click...very reproducible. leave the car in first gear, step onthe gas, "click" as the car pushes forward, let off the gas, "click" as the car slows.
after a bit of research on this website, i found several posts with the same symptons, some confused it with clutch engagement, disengagement, as the clutch work tends to jerk the car. others noted a loose axle rod nut.
i took the car to the dealer and told them to look into a potential loose nut on the front end axle as i had read about it on the internet and think i have the condition.
after telling me not to belive everything i read on the internet, they came back with a quick diagnosis of loose not on the left front axle - the left wheel is apparently the drive wheel. they replaced the wheel bearinng due to lose nut causing accelerating wear of the bearing. the service advisor mentioned there was an updated part - revised nut ?
in general, they said the MCs are holding up well.
just wanted to thank this great forum for all the great information on it and the contributors.
i am definetely disappointed that such a defect exists on a last year production run! but after owning a few 3-series, i am well versed in defects!
i continue to be very happy with the car, and may trade my x3 for a turbo traveller in 3 or 4 years!
