H-Sport Sport Rear Sway Bar

Looking to purchase a rear sway bar...
Would I be correct to assume that 19 mm, tubular sway bar from H-Sport is a litlle more compliant than an Alta solid 19 mm ?
Recently installed the Megan coilover setup and i am very pleased. However, I don't feel I need to go to a larger bar, say 22mm. Further, I will most definately not need or want it during the winter, snowy months. Any help appreciated.

I dont understand what "compliant" means .... do you mean less stiff? If so, probably yes since their comp bar is also tubular at 25.5 mm and is effectively 22mm. Therefore I would assume its less than an equivalant 19mm. Since the stock bar is 17mm, not sure what a 19mm hollow bar would do.

i have the 19mm hsport. i have it the highest setting right now.

in the 6 months that i have had it i have done 1 track day and 2 autoxs. there are more autoxs to come.

in my opinion the bar does the job and i happy with it as it is. it is stiff and works well.

another way to look at it however is the two bars are the same price. so if you thought you might need the EXTRA stiffness of the comp bar why not get it and just keep it on the setting. i know a couple people who have the comp bar and keep it on the soft setting all the time even at autoxs.

i hope that helps in some way.

yes, i was thinking that the 19mm hollow might not be much stiffer than my stock bar. think i might try the alta 19, as its a little less $. thanks...

You probably need to look into this a little further by checking out what the stiffness %s are for each bar, and decide what is best for you. I am pretty sure that the manufacturers all list what each of the adjustable bars stiffness over stock %s are, so that might answer your question. Don't just trust solid over hollow, make sure you find out what the ratings are too.

True... However, I have installed a stiffer suspension and don't think that I need or want anything stiffer than a 19mm solid bar. Problem is that I don't realy know what I need... I will not be racing, might try to get involved with an occasional autox, but also will drive around in the winter, slippery months. Further, Alta works out to be about $75 bucks CDN. less expensive after duty/taxes/exchange.
If someone with the Megan suspension could comment...
Thanks, this forum has been fantastic source of info.

Here are the numbers from H-comp

19 mm +54%, +88% & +128%
25.5 (comp) +226%, +294% & +383%
25.4 (ract) +314% / +394% / +501%

Even on the stiffest setting, the 19mm bar is barely twice as stiff as OEM

I do not race, autox, or track the car ... but we have always driven sports cars and the OEM MCS understeers way to much. We use the 25.5 bar on the softest setting +226% and it still understeers.

I've got the 22mm RSpeed sway bar on the softest setting. Done two AutoX's on it, and lots of aggressive canyon driving over the past 7 months I've had it installed. I love it, though I'm inclined to move it up a notch to the middle setting to stiffen it up a bit more. But already on the softest setting, the car is very predictable.

I do the same thing...with the same results. Though, I have gotten it to oversteer slightly in the wet while letting off. It really is difficult to say as the snow is really going to change the handling characteristics. A let-off or brake application in a corner might get interesting. You might need to compromise with the 19mm (solid) bar so you can go full stiff in the summer which will reduce most understeer and then soft in the winter for safety purposes.

Someone needs to come out with a middle-of-the-road bar that's around 20 or 21mm so the soft setting will allow for decent understeer and the stiff setting will still cause oversteer.

Hi

I'm in the market to buy a rear sway bar
I've decided on the H Sport brand.

My question:

I have a 2005 MCS Cabrio
which bar is best for my Cooper, the Comp or the Sport?
(mind you that I just got an M7 USS and Strut Bar as well).

I do a lot of spirited driving but not sure which one of the two to get
I would appreciate if someone can share some thoughts about it
for my specific situation (cabrio)

thanks for your help

regards,
Charles

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for. I have the Webb Ext. now, but because of lack of a complete setup not being delivered, Im still running stock drop links. Im looking to dump the Webb product since he cant deliver for his customers. The comp bar looks good, I do 16+ events at the track each year, but also this is my daily driver so I need to scale it back for normal driving.

Any issue with squeeking? how about lubrication?

Lube should be easy because it has zerk fittings (which is one reason I got those). Knock on wood, no problems yet
