Just Under the Wire

When I began to see the pictures of the new 2007 MINI and the announcement of a Peugeot developed turbo engine to replace the current supercharged version I knew I must act. Luckily we got our production number today for a 2006 MCS. I agree that the demand for more of this and that will eventually erode the uniqueness of the current MINI we know today.

Happy Motoring...

What's the point of this post and why is it in the R56 forum?

I'm glad you were able to get in "just under the wire" and miss out on getting a lighter, faster, more technologically advanced car. Good luck with your "uniqueness" though.

By the way, I love the '06's, but come on.

I don't know if I'd automatically assume that more "technologically advanced" means better. In the Navy, you're better off not being on the first ship of the class; you get to be the guinea pig and find out all the gremlins in the equipment and all the stuff that doesn't work as advertised. Case in point: the USS Thresher. Lost at sea with all hands due to an insufficient instrument air dryer and ballast tanks sized too small.

Granted that's an extreme example, but I'd rather go with the tried and true model than be the guy frustrated that I dropped 28 large on a "possessed" car.

Sorry, it was a long day yesterday. I didn't mean to make this one of "those threads".

I just get tired of everyone bagging on the '07 because of this or that when they will probably end up liking it or even end up with one in the future. Until we drive one, we have no evidence that it will have lost it's "uniqueness". I love the current generation MCS enough that I almost ordered one. That being said, Yes, I would consider any engine that was designed what, ten years ago roughly, less advanced than an engine that was designed in the last couple years. I'm not saying that there won't be teething issues, but it's going to be a much more modern engine/vehicle no matter how you look at it.

I'm happy for anyone that gets a new MINI, but don't bag on something that half the discussion board is going to have in their signature three years from now. It's just not nice.
