Probably HS.
It's heavy and big, despite the 150hp stock 5-cylinder.

Actually, cars like G-Stock's Audi A4, Mercedes 190, and Pontiac Grand Am (either 4 or 6-cyl) are bigger and heavier, yet they don't seem to get the break to run in HS. Isn't the Golf still GS, even in 4-cyl form? Who knows which way the political winds may blow for the new Rabbit? Some conspiracy theorists might suspect that if VW chooses to fund contingency award money for their trophy winners, then the Rabbit will likely be classed more advantageously for Solo.

You can check with SCCA but I think it will be HS for several reasons.

In past years VWs in G Stock were Golf/GTi/Jetta 16 valve or turbo.
While H Stock had Golf/GTi/Jetta 8 valve non turbo.

The new 2007 Rabbit stems from the Golf and is inline dual overhead cam, 4 valve per cylinder.

It's also pretty heavy at 2974 for manual and 3040 for automatic.
150 HP and 170 ft-lbs of torque is barely enough it think.

Usually in 2006 there is no official word from SCCA about relatively new models and we have to wait for a ruling but it might not be until next season. Your local region will permit your Chief of Registration to make a decision on what class a new car will run in.

I think H-stock is the most appropriate class at this time. All turbo VW sedans have been going into G-stock. While Golf R32 is D-stock.

Having spent 5 years on the Stock Advisory Committee, I would agree, some things just don't make a lot of sense.

However, heavy base-model 4-cylinder Golfs/Rabbits/Jettas with a mushy suspension are most likely going to go in H Stock. They will not be competitive, even there.
