1-2 Finish for the Minis - 2 hour Enduro
Well, we ran a 2 hour enduro with Club Racing Arizona - www.clubracingaz.com on Saturday night from 10:40 p.m. to 12:40 a.m. on Sunday morning and the Mini Cooper S race cars took 1st and 2nd overall out of a field of 11 cars.
I was lucky and got first, but only because the other Mini pushed the pit window and ran out of gas and limped back to the pits allowing me to catch and gain a lap on him.
We raced at Firebird main raceway and the drag-strip straight was well lit, while the back side was completely dark - not even all the berms were lit - so it made it very interesting!
Everyone had a mandatory 5 minute pit stop to help keep the race even.
The event also had a drifting competition, SubaruFest (with a LOT of cars), and along with the racing, an HPDE day. Overall the total event had an estimated spectator count of over 4,000 people - though there were very few left by the end of the enduro!
It rained during the first practice, helping to bring the air temperature down to 100 degrees from the 115 degrees. At race time, the air temperature was still 95 degrees and at the end of the race, the temperature was 85 - 92 degrees.
I kept well hydrated in the car which helped, but others lost 5-7 pounds during the race!
