07 to arrive in March, no changes to Cabrio

I had my MCC in this week for service. I asked the dealer for availibility dates
for the 07 coupe and Cabrio. He said no cars in the U.S. until March, and that the convertibles are not being redesigned. Cabrios will be sold, but in the same configurations as 06.

That last bit of info made me wonder, due to the fact that one of the reasons for the design change was becuase of new laws in Europe.
If they don't change the design of the 'Vert, how can they sell it outside of the U.S. ???

Any thoughts on either bit of news ??

Must be more important to them to get rid of the parts inventory on hand for the current model. I think it's interesting that both the redesigned and non-redesigned model will be available for a while. If the 07 haters are willing to buy a convertible, they get a reprieve on the demise of the current model MINI.

The convertible will eventually be redesigned.......or dropped.

Anyone know what percentage of MINI's total sales are convertibles?

As for the pedestrian laws, maybe they only apply when a redesign is implemented?

There's a ton of info on this topic at MotoringFile. Here's one story that may help: Next Generation MINI Production Timeline

great info
The limited number of cooper cabrios sold would be the reason, it attracts so very much attention.

Does great for future collector car status.

or the fact that they werent offered for the first 2-3 years

out of the 157k, 22k of them are Cabrios. 04 dosent really count for a sale year as they were only offered towards the end, so seeing how Cabrio's sell less then any other car in general and a 3 year difference between the launch of them and the higher price, i would say their doing good.

Also, Cabrio's are never introduced the same year as the regular model. Look @ the 3 series, look at the M3.

Aaagh....March...

I'm waiting for the 2007 (so far) and March just seems like it's decades away.

But...if the dealer is saying first cars in US in March, and if 2006 ordering stops in September, are we talking mid-September or October for the opening of ordering of the 2007's? I suppose I could talk to the dealer, but they're 75 miles away due to some screwup that left Austin without a dealer.

Or does March mean that's when they'll start taking orders from the US?

If that's the case, I might intensify my search for a gently used MCS w/Auto in a dark color to tide me over. (I'm a bit too big for a manual, I'm reasonably sure.)

No, that date is for deliveries. As my dealer explained..... First cars to roll off the line in January, and to be sold only in Europe. USA deliveries to start in March. I suppose we'll see....

I'll call the dealer here and make inquiries next week as to what they expect and when they'll start taking deposits and then orders. I'm also curious about their current stock. They list several through Autotrader but nothing on their website.

I just put a deposit down for a 2007 Cooper and the dealer at East Bay MINI said likely delivery would be late Jan or early Feb. I've read the same thing somewhere on motoringfile.com.

so if production starts in September on the 07 for Europe ... and we are less then 2 months away from this ... how come no official photos and specs releases yet from MINI?

when will this officially come out?

I've been interested in when the official annoucement is coming too. I'm guessing August 1st. Since the U.S. dealers probably won't get any more custom order allocations excluding convertibles, the factory will close to tours, and they need a months time for European custom orders... unless all the '07 MINIs on the lots in Europe for Sept are pre-spec.

Now, I have a deposit with my local dealer for an '06 MC but already have my production # from another dealer.
I'm likely going to move it to the '07 MC list and by the time we're able to order here in the U.S. we'll have good reviews from Europe. If they get 6 MPGs or more than the current MC and are not having glaring issues, I'll likely trade in my '06 for the '07... or I can put a deposit down for an '08 Traveler.
