steering wheel dilemma?

Someone want to give me an idea what to do?

My 03's steering wheel's leather is starting to peel.... has anyone ever gotten the work done by a dealer and get an 05 or newer steeringwheel replaced under warranty? or am i out of luck in search for aftermarket...

i can go either with a wheelskin, that'd be charcoal and white (to match my car's exterior paint), or i can go with an aftermarket wheel like this one:

problem is, i got a problem, if i go with this wheel, which is what i really want, but i lose the airbag, and i like my face and my life very much

wheelskin seems to just rotate around the outside, so part of the broken leather will still be exposed, but at least i get a nice wheel cover to cover it up

anyone ever gotten the factory steering wheel replaced for the broken leather?

I have a wheel skin on my Miata & it's stayed put for over 6 years now. If the wheel skin is moving it wasn't installed right from the beginning. When lacing one up you have to pull HARD!!! Be sure to wear gloves because the lacing will cut you. As far as having an 05 or 06 wheel installed, I doubt they'd do it. It probably would bolt on fine, but the later model airbag is unlikely to work with the older electronics in your car.

You could always consider the JCW wheel, and keep it "factory". I know, I know, it's very pricey, but just thought I'd throw it out there as another option.

It will work fine. There is even an official retrofit kit. However, I think it would be prohibitively expensive to purchase both a new steering wheel and the new airbag that fits it.

MINI should still stock the replacement wheel for your car (probably runs in the neighborhood of $300). Personally I would try to find a place that would retrim it in a really nice leather.
