Mods and Maintenance at the cookout: July 2nd

Who is planning on doing some mods or getting some help with some maintenance while we enjoy the company of our fellow MINI motorists?

I'm planning on cleaning my intercooper.

I will also be doing free brake light mods on any 2002-2004 MINI that does not yet have it already.

Stephen Wittkop, owner of Stephen's Garage, will have his new and quite amazing diagnostic computer with him. This would be a great chance to get that check engine light diagnosed or see if there is some reason your MINI is acting strange.

If you have plans to add something to your MINI or need help with something, post here and let us know.

Looking forward to playing with the MINI's on Sunday!

Yea, let's do some MINI work. I'm interested in Stephen's diagnostic. My MINI has been acting weird in that it keeps detouring to curvy roads on my way to work.

Andrew, don't worry about being the only one getting dirty. We'll gladly share in the dirty work.

Does anyone know where in Birmingham I could buy a kit for cleaning and re-oiling my Alta foam intake filter? It's due for a scrubbing too. . . .

Nothing specifically on Alta but I ran across Hesco once when checking out the Unichip. They may have something you may be able to use or know where you could get something.

I'm new, so excuse the question, but what's this? Mine's an '06.

In 02-04 the fog light was integrated in the brake light housing and early on, the fog light was not an available option. Since you couldn't get it enabled, people were taking advantage of the extra bulb by connecting with the standard brake light. This would make for a two bulb brake light system.

Since 05, the fog light has been an option and moved to the lower bumper.

Here is a photo of a MINI with the brake light mod. The upper light in the turn signals would normally be unlit, but with the mod it lights up. Makes it easier for Hummers to see that you are slowing down. . .

I don't have the ipod adapter, but I do have an aux input, although I did a pretty lazy job of stuffing it into the glove box, so probably not the best example in the world. . .

I have the AUX input (not ipod) that was dealer installed that you can look at if that will help. That is if anybody can get my glove box open

So if anybody gets bored Sunday I have a challenge for ya...Try to get my glove box open. I mentioned that the lock was acting up at my last dealer trek & of course they looked at it & said it was fine. Well it has been stuck closed/locked for over a month now & it's been so long I can't even remember what's in there (besides my AUX input )

I thought you just kept your spare ammo in the cup holder. At least that is where it was the last time I got a good look inside your MINI.

Well I thought about leaving them in the cupholder to scare people off when the top is down but I put them back where they belonged. Lotta good it will do me since I can't open the glove box Ahh well I still love my Mini quirks & all (my lovable little POS )

(carefully approaches)

I've got my aux input cord leading from my closed glovebox to under the center console where I keep the shuffle. the cord is black so you don't even notice it. I also keep a power point ipod charger in my emergency kit (in the boot). Ask to see what's in the kit on Sunday!

I would like to see how you have your cord run. I have always hated my AUX being in the glove box because I prefer to have my MP3 player outside the glove box.

Hey SB I have a diagnostic tool also. I thought everyone knew that. If your check engine light every comes on I can check it for you. I use my tool every time I do a mod to check that everthing is working.
But I bet Stephen's tool is better.

I also will be doing a oil change to show everybody how it is done. But Stephen is the man to see if you don't want to do it yourself.
That is the only two people that can touch my MINI. Me and Stephen's Garage . Well maybe SB and Sjolly because they helped me with the sway bar.

See everyone there.
