wierd v1 / throttle interaction in the dark

this is strange. i have an older V1 (when the laser module still added an extra ~1/4" to the bottom) mounted on the windshield above left from the rear-view. no problems during the day, but as it gets darker, the laser warning starts going off with the application of throttle. at dusk i've got to tromp it, but by the time it is fully dark, almost any throttle input is greeted with the laser warning.

by now i've learned to ignore it, and i do most of my non-roadtrip driving during the day, but needless to say at first it led to countless jerky launches as i'd take off then kill the throttle when the warning went off.

now i've just got the volume way down at night and ignore it unless it is showing radar rather than laser, but obviously it's not acceptable long-term.

anybody else seen this or got any ideas?

I have a newer one than you, but still not the newest. I dont have any problems that you speak of. Mounted in the same location. What I do notice is when I pull up on a tall SUV that has the reverse warning(distance alert?),like at a light, my laser detection goes off briefly if I get close enough to it.

All I can think of is the small amount of electrical engine noise present in the power voltage is somehow interfering with the early laser electronics. I'm sure it was corrected in subsequent hardware versions.

Don't forget Valentine will trade your V1 for a new one for a fraction of the price. Enter the serial number on their website and it will tell you how much.

I have a V1 from over ten years ago and the only time I see laser is either:

1-GM SUVs at a stop light (their red lens' wave length is in the same spectrum as laser)

2-A real laser gun pointed right at me

lol the "fraction" for my unit is 1/2.

it's gotta be MINI related. it works fine in other vehicles in the dark. (and in the daytime too).

My V1 is probably about as old as yours, and I haven't seen the issue that you describe. The only times the laser warning has gone off were when the highway patrol was clocking me with their laser guns. If it gets to be too annoying, you can always disable the laser warning in programming mode.

thanks. laser covereage is so pointless anyway, turning it off is a great stopgap measure. i'd still like to figure out what's triggering it though.

great link!

edit...damn someone beat me to it....anyway, its only like $70 I think to trade up from your 3inch thick v1 to a new one...check the site

edit2...lol...try this out, kinda funny/cool, if you have NAV...take it off the windshield and move it around your car while plugged in, when you get in front of the NAV screen laser goes nuts...
